JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: REFERRAL SUPERVISOR

DEPARTMENT: Medical Unit

STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Chief Officer, Supervise, Coordinate and participate in the
clerical activities of the Referral Department ensuring accuracy and completeness of
work, proper staffing and training f employees and adherence to established
department policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Delegate staff roles and responsibilities as they relate to the Referral Clerk to
maintain efficient and effective call flow and subsequent patient visit flow.

2. Facilitates the administrative components of clinical referrals for various sources.
3. Develop and maintain database of referral physician offices preferred by each

physician within the clinic.
4. Enter referrals, document communications and actions in system.
5. Provide education and training to Referral Department.
6. Promote a team approach to delivering quality, cost-efficient care where patient

satisfaction is the primary goal and implement effective tools to improve
operational efficiency and control costs.

7. Provide education and training to Referral Department.
8. Assist with the development, implementation and compliance of departmental

goals, policies, procedures, budgets, and reporting tools.
9. Participate in meetings, as needed.
10. On a monthly basis, and as needed, facilitate staff meetings to provide

appropriate orientation, training and supervision of staff, to keep them aware of
changes in protocols and practices.

11. On a monthly basis, and as needed, report progress, operational issues,
organizational opportunities, and incidents and grievances to manager.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate and implement assigned quality improvement activities
2. Recommend establishment or revision of policies
3. Promote positive working relationships with community agencies and with other

departments

4. Performs personnel management functions such as recommending personnel
qualification requirements, drafting procedure manuals, imitating in-service
programs, and installing record and reporting systems

5. Promotes delivery of quality of patient care
6. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree with two or more years of Health care management
experience preferred. Supervisory experience within Referrals or Call Center
strongly preferred.

Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)

Ability to work with all levels of management

A valid California Driver's license and access to insured automobile

Knowledge of Federal, State and local funding designated for health services

Ability to work with people of diverse cultural, educational, social, and economic
backgrounds

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Excellent organizational skills

Computer proficiency

Experience utilizing an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system is highly
desirable

Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
