Position Overview Under direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor or Athletics/Aquatics Supervisor, the Recreation Specialist is responsible for maintaining customer relations at the front desk of the Rowlett Community Centre. This position is also responsible for light programming duties, as well as swimming pool maintenance. The nature of the work will require day, evening and/or weekend hours as required.
Essential Job FunctionsRegisters and enrolls participants; informs participants of class changes, cancellations, and refunds. Prepares and maintains attendance reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis for classes, meetings, and drop-in facility use on a computerized system. Investigates and resolves citizen complaints concerning classes, instructors, or the facility. Maintains facility, interior and exterior, by reporting complaints and problems, reporting repairs to the Community Centre Supervisor, handling customer complaints where appropriate, identifying current risk and forecasting potential problems.
Registers citizens using RecTrac software ensuring necessary paperwork is completed and filed, entering information into a computer system and accepting payments. Processes transactions using RecTrac Software including POS transactions, selling memberships, reserving facilities, registering patrons for programs and special events. Physically adapts recreation center or other recreation facility for daily recreation center usage through movement or recreation equipment. Monitors and supervises drop-in recreation usage by recreation center patrons. Responsible for opening and closing the Rowlett Community Centre by organizing front desk work area, accounting for cash levels, printing reports for daily reconciliation of payments and record of daily transactions.
Provides various administrative services by ensuring safety in front lobby, assisting with various marketing tools, maintaining adequate levels of supplies and marketing tools, provide excellent customer service to members and rentals customers, assisting with special events and providing clerical based services. Serves as the Front Desk Manager on Duty for various operating shifts. Responsible for regular attendance and arriving to work on time.
Reserves athletic and aquatic facilities and assigns lights as necessary. Schedules, coordinates, and administers assigned athletic leagues. Monitors and supervises athletics and aquatics programming. Assists with the maintenance of the swimming pool. Monitors and maintains pool filtration systems. Monitors pool water chemistry through testing of water samples.
Performs other duties as assigned. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this position, as is the ability to create and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with others.
Minimum RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in a community recreational facility. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Other RequirementsValid driver's license required. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental Director or his/her designee within two working days of receipt.
Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification within six months of assignment to position.
Required to work nights, weekends or special events as needed by the department.
