Description

Under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. The Recreation Leader conducts activities with assigned groups of all ages in varying programs and different indoor/outdoor facilities or centers. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate personnel, including seasonal and volunteer staff. Does related work as required.
Essential Job Duties
  • Open and closes park/facilities according to schedule. Required to report to work at the appointed hour, as scheduled, and work the entire assigned schedule.
  • Organizes promotes, and conducts diversified recreation activities such as games, sports, trips, dance, music, story-telling, nature, special events, tournaments, etc.;
  • Presents and facilitates recreational programming in assigned area(s). Coordinates programs and activities with other County departments, agencies, community organizations, and the public as appropriate.
  • Schedules the use of facilities so that activities do not conflict with one another. Reviews and responds to customer concerns.
  • Resolves conflicts regarding county programs and facility usage.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of equipment and supplies prior to the program's start and completion of the program.
  • Provide program information to the public through the preparation and distribution of effective publicity materials
  • Assists in the supervision of other recreational staff members and volunteers
  • Assists in evaluating all programs for effectiveness and value to the overall recreation program.
  • Adheres to safety practices and ensures that participants do likewise
  • Meets and greets participants and answers any questions they may have about specific programs
  • Maintains accurate records of activities and attendance;
  • Inspects facilities and equipment as a safety measure;
  • Acts as a Sports Official and supports order at games and contests;
  • Attends staff meetings to discuss special problem(s), the inter-playground program(s), and the community recreation program(s);
  • Gives first aid when necessary;
  • Uses computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software in performing work assignments.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as requested.
Typical Requirements
Education/Experience:

High school diploma / GED and two years of work experience in youth and/or adult recreational activities, or an equivalent combination of formal education and related working experience.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of first aid

Knowledge of recreation theory and practices

Knowledge of the organization and conduct of one or more types of recreational activities with an emphasis on the organization and conducts of games or athletic events

Ability to stimulate and hold the interest of the participants

Ability to get along well with others

Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position; creativity; reliability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as requested.
