SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The City of San Marcos is currently accepting qualified applications for the
Part Time Parks and Recreation Front Desk Attendant as welcomed additions to
the
San Marcos Senior Activity Center

Hours Required (may be modified or adjusted due to needs of program & facility):
  • Monday through Friday: 10 am - 2 pm
Part Time positions are limited to working no more than an average of 20 hours per week and no more than 999 hours per fiscal year. Specific hours for each position are determined per department programmatic needs and per budgetary approval.

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Under supervision, performs a variety of office and reception duties necessary for the daily operation of the Senior Activity Center front counter, including but not limited to typing, data entry, document filing and customer service - both in person and over the telephone; performs other related office work as assigned. Serves as front desk attendant; greets the public in a professional and cheerful manner; answers the telephone and registers participants for classes and programs, assists with special activities and programs as assigned; organizes and prepares facility for users; monitors group facility use; and performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
Customer service; modern office methods and practices; filing systems; receptionist and telephone techniques; correspondence; proofreading and editing; basic business mathematics; and computers including Microsoft 365 and Outlook.

Ability to:

Operate office equipment, understand and carry out oral and written instructions; express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; cooperatively handle a wide variety of tasks; effectively prioritize; perform all duties with composure; use good judgment in the scope of assigned authority; establish and maintain effective relationships with City employees and members of the public; and demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the community.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education/Experience:
Education equivalent to high school graduate with experience and/or training providing the required knowledge and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of the position.

License or Certificate:
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license, Class C, with satisfactory driving record.
This is a part time non-benefited position, however effective 07/01/2015 part time employees will receive 1 hour of sick leave accrual per 30 hours worked. Employees in this category are eligible to use up to 27 hours per year and are able to carry over up to 54 sick leave hours per year.
