Position Information

TxDOT is looking for a Records Management Intern to be part of the TxDOT enterprise Records Management team in Austin, TX. You will gain experience working with records of various types, both physical and electronic, while gaining experience related to record retention processes, record disposition, and more.

Preference will be given to students enrolled in an Information Science, Library Science, or similar program at any level. This is a paid summer internship for the summer that may be extended into the fall on a part-time basis.

Position Description

Performs entry-level administrative support work. Work involves performing a wide range of administrative and office support work for the department. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

Essential Duties:
  • Process physical record requests for the Stassney Record Warehouse, including requests to process records into the warehouse and requests to retrieve records in the warehouse.
  • Assist with record disposition efforts in the Stassney Records Warehouse.
  • Assists in drafting and reviewing program documents, such as process documentation, retention schedule amendments, training presentations, and other documents as directed.
  • Assist with the conversion of the index for microfiche records from hard paper copies to an electronic format.
  • Assist with other Records Management activities as appropriate.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.

Other Conditions:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include

    a trade/vocational school.
  • Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may

    use power tools.
Preferred Qualifications:

• Preference will be given to students enrolled in an Information Science, Library Science, or similar program at any level.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes
  • Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
  • Sitting - prolonged periods of time
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
