Salem City Schools is looking for a Receptionist at Salem City Schools Central Office for the School Year. The hours are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday.

RECEPTIONIST

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Performs intermediate clerical work providing assistance to the public and receiving and routing the calls to proper person or department; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. This is a non-exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside environmental conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

Answers telephones and directs incoming calls to proper office or department for disposition. The Receptionist also .
  • Acts as receptionist greeting visitors and referring them to proper party or makes appointments; relays messages left at switchboard;
  • Provides general information regarding school system activities and programs to the public;
  • Greets walk-in public and provides assistance and/or directs them to appropriate office;
  • Receives and distributes mail, postmarks outgoing mail, handles incoming and outgoing parcels;
  • Distributes professional and classified applications to interested parties;
  • Distributes tuition and pupil transfer forms;
  • Maintains calendar and Board room schedule;
  • Performs a variety of office assistance tasks when requested;
  • Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

General knowledge of standard office and receptionist procedures and the operation of the switchboard; general knowledge of the functions and activities of the public school system; ability to speak clearly; ability to understand and follow written and oral directions; ability to operate standard office, computer and word processing equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors and the general public.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some office experience.
