A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a senior-level affordable housing associate or counsel (6-8 years of law firm experience) to join its distinguished Affordable Housing team. This team works with for-profit and nonprofit developers, investors, and governmental entities to develop, acquire, construct, finance, operate, and preserve housing across Texas and other locations throughout the United States.

Position Overview:

The ideal candidate will have at least 6 years of relevant experience focusing on affordable housing transactions, including affordable housing finance, development, and incentives. While experience with other types of tax credits is beneficial, it is not required. The role requires leading all facets of an affordable housing development or finance transaction, from structuring to drafting and negotiating transaction documents, as well as handling business and legal issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of affordable housing finance and development transactions, including structuring, drafting, and negotiating transaction documents.
  • Manage due diligence and oversee project management, while maintaining direct interaction with clients and opposing parties.
  • Work closely with sophisticated and demanding clients, taking the lead on deals and providing strategic legal counsel.
  • Meet tight deadlines and work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with clients and team members, both orally and in writing.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. from a nationally recognized and accredited law school with a strong academic record.
  • 6+ years of relevant law firm experience focused on affordable housing finance, development, and incentives.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of affordable housing transactions from start to finish.
  • Ability to manage client relationships, lead deals, and work effectively in a team.
  • Professional commitment and interpersonal skills necessary for success in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with clients and opposing parties clearly and effectively.

Location:

This position is based in Chicago, IL. Other office locations may also be considered depending on experience and firm needs.

Compensation and Benefits:

The expected annual salary range for this position is $345,000 - $385,000, with actual salary determined by factors such as experience, education, training, and skills. In addition to base salary, associates are eligible for a performance- and hours-based bonus program. The firm offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
