General Description of the PositionRCMI IHER is an $18.3 million award from the National institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) supporting the development of a health disparities research center. The major goal of the IHER Center is to develop DSU as a leader in biomedical, behavioral and social research related to health disparities and health equity. The RCMI Grant Coordinator will assist with administering the overall grant. The hired person will work directly under the supervision of the WCHBS RCMI MPI and the IHER Senior Program Administrator (IHER SPA) to support the activities of the RCMI programs and manage/coordinate the overall processes required to implement the projects.
Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesEssential Functions The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
- Assist the IHER Senior Program Administrator in budget tracking for all the different IHER Center components and assist Restricted Funds Accounting with documentation of IHER spending.
- Maintain time & effort records and forms for IHER-supported personnel.
- Help organize seminars, symposia, retreats, and other Center programs as directed by the IHER SPA or MPI.
- Assist IHER SPA with scheduling meetings of the Steering Committee, the Research Committee, and the Advisory Committee, and will assist with collecting data required for grant reports as needed.
- Assist IHER SPA and Center-supported faculty with the administration of their project awards, including any grants awarded under their cores.
- Assist with drafting agendas, taking notes, preparing and distributing minutes for meetings, and managing the day-to-day administrative activities of the program events and activities.
- Management of RCMI Student Research training program under the direction of IHER SPA.
- Work closely with IHER SPA to facilitate an efficient and productive workflow process between the DSU Offices of Sponsored Research & Accounting/Finance
- Assist IHER SPA to manage on board hiring for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Coordinate travel for IHER-related conferences, professional meetings, and workshops.
- Management of IHER pilot research projects and supplement awards as and when delegated by IHER SPA.
Other Functions Individuals in this job may be assigned one or more of the following tasks on a rotating or as-needed basis:
- May be asked to take minutes of meetings
- May be asked to coordinate special events pertinent to program components
- May be asked to represent the project at University and other events
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, using some other combination of skills and abilities:
- Excellent knowledge of financial and budgeting required.
- Skilled administrative professional able to carry out varied grant mandated job responsibilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Well organized and detailed oriented approach
- Proficient in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access)
- Excellent knowledge of sponsored projects processes and practices and DSU software Banner 9, Blackboard, Argos, and CentreSuite is preferred
- Ability and willingness to learn new systems, techniques and procedures
- Ability to provide grant administration training to onboarding staff
- Readily answerable and accessible to grant staff to update them with status of the grant process
- Excellent time management skills
- Knowledge of grant management is preferred
Qualification StandardsBachelor's degree in business administration, mathematics, social science, or related field is required. Minimum of one year of relevant experience.
