Job Title: Soft Goods Developer (textile engineer)
Location: Sunnyvale, CA 94089
Duration: 12 Month extension possible based on needs and performance
Minimum Salary: $70.00 Per Hourly
Maximum Salary: $75.00 Per Hourly
100% On site in Sunnyvale
This person is a textile engineer meets prototyping specialist who turns creative product ideas into working, testable soft goods components that integrate into electronics. They are hands-on, technically savvy with textiles, and comfortable navigating both design concepts and manufacturing realities.
Job Summary:
- The Soft Goods Engineering team develop technical Soft Goods integration solutions across client's consumer VR, AR, Smart Glasses, Wearables and Accessories product lines.
- We work closely with creative, technical and operations partners as we push the boundaries of what is possible in Soft Goods integration.
- The ideal candidate will have experience in developing novel Soft Goods constructions through iterative prototyping, leveraging a deep knowledge of textiles (knits, wovens, non-wovens), foams and adhesives, and how to manipulate them in a scale manufacturing environment.
- This role works closely with Industrial Design and Softgoods Product Design Engineers and Textile Engineers to generate and prove out various construction options for consumer product lines.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with ID, SgPD and System PD to generate Softgoods construction ideas, prototype and test them to aid with down selection to production viable solutions.
- Develop methods for prototyping Soft Goods constructions in our Soft Goods Labs which demonstrate their viability from cosmetic, functional and reliability perspective.
- Design and develop tools and fixtures to emulate production processes to guide DFM and ID expectation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Textile Engineering, Softgoods, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in technical textiles and soft goods integration into consumer products.
- 2D and 3D CAD skills sufficient to support prototyping capabilities, e.g. proof of concept prototype assemblies, tool and fixture making, exporting for 3D print / laser / zund etc.
Preferred Qualification:
- Expert in 3D and 2D NX
- 5+ years of experience in technical textiles and soft goods integration into consumer electronics or similar products
- Experience developing soft goods for wearable consumer electronics products
Will work with about 6 cross functional people in the product development team to design constructions for wearable soft goods. Test matrixing will also be required. Will work on VR headsets.
- Strong skills in CAD software (Solidworks, NX) and tooling/fixture design.
- Knowledge of fabric and textile constructions (knit, weaves, non-wovens
- Prev. exp designing sports equipment, automotive components ( shoes, accessories, headsets, where soft and hard good components are utilized)
