RAN Virtualization OA&M Engineer- Plano, Texas

About the Role

We are seeking a RAN Virtualization OA&M Engineer with expertise in OAMP/FCAPS subsystem integration and troubleshooting within wireless networks. This role involves supporting 4G/5G RAN network management features, virtualized networks, and ensuring seamless new product rollouts.

As a key technical resource, you will work on Tier 3 SME support, engage with R&D teams for root cause analysis (RCA), and contribute to EMS/NMS design, development, and troubleshooting. Key Responsibilities:

OAMP/FCAPS Integration & Troubleshooting
  • Perform subsystem integration and troubleshooting for wireless network elements.
  • Provide Tier 3 SME support, driving support teams to resolve commercial NMS/EMS application issues.
  • Propose workarounds and collaborate with R&D for root cause analysis (RCA).
Technical Leadership & Customer Engagement
  • Assist SMEs with product and feature requirement development.
  • Support deep-dive customer sessions and new technology introductions for 4G/5G RAN
Network Management.
  • Convert customer requirements into system requirements and detailed designs.
  • Ensure smooth deployment of new products and software releases.
  • Provide pre-sales technical support and help develop compelling technical and commercial solutions.
Network Virtualization & Automation
  • Work with vCU/vDU, EMS/NMS, and RAN Network Function Virtualization (NFV).
  • Support automation & orchestration frameworks (ETSI MANO, OASIS TOSCA, ONAP).
  • Implement EMS applications, leveraging TR-069, Netconf protocol, YANG models, and RESTful APIs.
System Engineering & Performance Optimization
  • Author and implement EMS/NMS/NE software upgrade MOPs in commercial networks.
  • Troubleshoot issues using command-line tools, scripting (PERL, TCL, Shell), and Unix/Linux environments.
  • Optimize VMware/OpenStack performance, manage virtual resources, and configure storage (SAN/NAS/iSCSI).
  • Work with virtual switches, VLANs, SR-IOV, VirtIO, and security groups.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Reporting
  • Work closely with internal teams, cross-functional departments, and R&D.
  • Ensure customer commitments are achieved as per plan.
  • Prepare and present technical insights to stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Travel occasionally as required for project needs.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience with OAMP/FCAPS/OSS in EMS/NMS and RAN network elements.
  • 1+ year of experience with NFV (vCU/vDU) in EMS/NMS and RAN.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, or Telecommunications (Master's preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of EMS/NMS architecture, high availability, and redundancy systems.
  • Expertise in SNMP, TNM protocols, and NMS/OSS interfaces.
  • Hands-on experience with network troubleshooting, scripting, and automation tools.
  • Knowledge of 3GPP systems (Core & RAN), architecture, and protocols.
  • Experience working with Unix/Linux environments and scripting tools (PERL, TCL, Shell).
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with OpenStack, Kubernetes, VMware for virtualized environments.
  • Familiarity with automation & orchestration frameworks (ETSI MANO, ONAP).
  • Experience with web-based development (Java, JavaScript, XML, SOAP, HTML, Web Services).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in complex environments.
