Job Description: Radiology Technician/Patient Service Representative
Department: Radiology Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt Location 6374 Lincoln Ave Chicago IL 60659
Reports To: Manager of Clinical Operations Compensation: $30-40/hr (DOE)
Midwest Refuah Health Center is seeking a full-time, Radiology Technician to interact with patients, train our new hires, and manage administrative and radiological responsibilities. The incumbent will perform x-rays for diagnostic purposes and follow established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.
Responsibilities:
Radiology Technician Tasks:
- Prepare patients for radiologic procedures.
- Escort patients to dressing and x-ray rooms, provide verbal and/or written instructions, and assist patients in positioning body parts to be radiographed.
- Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure patient care, safety, and comfort during the scan.
- Operate radiologic equipment to produce diagnostic images.
- Position radiologic equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance according to the specifications of the examination.
- Take x-rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.
- Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to ensure the safety of patients and team members.
- Ensure radiologic equipment remains in working order; report equipment malfunctions to the Practice Manager or supervisor.
- Maintain office inventory and ensure adequate radiologic supplies are in stock.
- Retrieve radiologic orders from and input related data into the electronic medical record (EMR).
Patient Service Representative Tasks:
- Train new staff, including Radiologic Technologists and Medical Assistants who have completed or are currently enrolled in a Limited Radiologic Technologist training and certification program.
- Welcome patients professionally both in person and on the phone.
- Perform related administrative duties, including completing necessary forms.
- Collect copays and self-pay payments.
- Verify insurance eligibility and notify clients of deductibles and session fees.
- Serve as a back-up for clinical team members as needed by:
- Controlling patient flow
- Performing EKG tests
- Obtaining blood pressure measurements
- Documenting vital signs in the EMR
- Administering injectables (if credentialed and trained)
- Take ownership and initiative in identifying needs to benefit the practice and recommend changes for the greater good of the practice.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
Exposure to radiation which is minimized by using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective lead aprons, gloves and other shielding devices and monitored by radiation badges.
Potential exposure to bodily fluids, infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a medical office environment.
Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public
Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, grasping, carrying, reaching, bending, stooping, and speaking.
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds, with assistance if needed
May need to lift or turn patients who are disabled, with assistance if needed
Frequent use of computer, keyboard, copy and fax machine and phone
Competencies
Knowledge of radiologic standards, requirements, and regulations.
Knowledge of radiologic safety, cleanliness and infection control policies and regulations.
Knowledge of radiologic equipment uses and maintenance.
Accuracy - Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.

Computer Skills - Proficient ability to use a computer and electronic medical record.
- eClinicalWorks (ECW) preferred.

Qualifications:
- Current Illinois Radiologic Technologist licensure required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 year of experience working in a relevant role required.
- Knowledge of ECW preferred or proficient in computer/EMR skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
