Program Overview Scientific, engineering, and acoustic data analysis in support of the U.S. Navy's Signatures Directorate. Operations include assisting with submarine sonar sensor testing, designing acoustic measurement systems, developing signature materials, and performing research and development for the fleet. About The Role Peraton is looking for a R&D Mechanical Engineer to join our team in West Bethesda, MD. This position supports the US Navy's Signature Physics Program. This program directly supports US Navy warfighters by performing research, development, and test of signature control technologies on US Navy platforms. This is a full time onsite position in West Bethesda, MD. What you'll do: This high visibility position performs rapid design, fabrication, installation, and test of naval platform signature control R&D articles. The successful candidate will participate in all phases of the development of test articles. Routine activities will include:
Use Solidworks to design R&D test items from polymers, metals, and wood
Perform design of articles using experimental materials that meet government specified physical criteria
Assist in fabrication using shop tools (band saws, drill press, etc) and hand tools (sanders, grinders, etc)
Coordinate with and direct technicians performing fabrication
Design and perform tests on fabricated components. Support third party component testing.
Support installation and test of components on model scale and full scale platform
Support article installation and test activities at shipyards and other NSWCCD sites
Develop briefs and presentations on articles designed
Qualifications Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 5-7 years of experience or Master's Degree in Engineering and 3-5 years of experience. PhD 0+ years of experience. Mechanical Engineering preferred.
Experience with Solidworks
Experienced with MS Office Suite Active DoD SECRET clearance Fabrication experience with shop tools (band saws, drill press, etc) and hand tools (sanders, grinders, etc)Desired: Component test design and execution experience
Shipyard Experience
SCA / Union / Intern Rate or Range Details Target Salary Range: $86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
