Summary:

The R&D Electronic Technician tests, troubleshoots, and repairs electronic and mechanical assemblies at the component level, including those used in low-volume production of electronic biomedical equipment. Using various test equipment (meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, in-circuit emulators), you will ensure products meet quality standards through precise, hands-on work.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Board Assembly, Programming & Testing:
  • Assemble and program printed circuit boards (PCBs) and execute functional tests.
  • Load Assemblies with firmware and software.
  • Perform functional verification and acceptance tests on board and subassembly test fixtures.
  • Troubleshooting & Repair:
  • Diagnose failed circuits and repair boards at the component level.
  • Document and report repair data and trends.
  • Equipment Operation:
  • Operate electronic test equipment effectively.
  • Use hand tools for assembly tasks, including soldering, desoldering, and manipulating fine gauge wires.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Recommend improvements to manufacturing test fixtures to enhance yield.
  • Identify recurring issues and communicate trends to supervisors.

General Duties:

  • Follow production material control procedures.
  • Maintain and organize lab space and parts inventory.
  • Assist in the low-volume production of electronic biomedical equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent soldering and desoldering skills (both SMT and through-hole).
  • Proficient in using electronic test equipment: power supplies, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and flying probes.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electronic schematics, drawings, and assembly instructions.
  • Skilled in handling small parts and fine gauge wires, with excellent manual dexterity.
  • Ability to understand Python is a strong plus.
  • Effective communication skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex circuits (analog, digital, power supply, high voltage) and recognize issues that require supervisory intervention.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in troubleshooting and repairing electronic circuit boards.
  • Experience with surface mount and through-hole board assemblies.
  • Familiarity with common electronic components (resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, ICs, etc.).
  • Associate Degree in Electronics or equivalent experience (minimum 5 years).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
