SUMMARY

Supervise Quality Control Technicians in the inspection and testing of products and maintain records and reports of quality data. An incumbent may or may not perform all of the duties listed below, dependent on the specific plant for which support is provided.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions:

  1. Supervise the QC technicians that pull samples and perform quality checks on product.
  2. Review hourly inspection reports, gather technician forms and prepare information reports for Quality Manager.
  3. Check sample boxes in QC labs from all shifts; insure all necessary items are provided.
  4. Transfer database collector information into main computer system
  5. Check reject books - manually input reject information into computer, verify sufficient tracking on the defects
  6. Inspect incoming materials for acceptable quality (boxes, labels, screens, etc.).
  7. Prepare Certificates of Compliance; obtain necessary signatures.
  8. File all inspection reports once signed off by Quality Manager.
  9. Prepare daily shift summary; input to computer (production per shift, per job line).
  10. Perform other related duties and special projects.
Marginal Functions:
  1. Perform start up evaluation (after set 24 hrs) to be sure all dimensions/specifications are acceptable.
  2. Gather bottle weights and create over/under weights graph.
  3. Schedule monthly calibration - scales, gauges, calipers, megamites; secure new or arrange for repairs as needed.
  4. Gather monthly data on held ware.
  5. Attend meetings for Quality Manager when on vacation.
Supervisory Functions:

Assign, review, and check work of Quality Technicians, providing on-the-job training as needed; eliminate ordinary work difficulties; coordinate employee attendance or work area coverage; provide input to the hiring, evaluation and discipline processes.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Requires a high school education or equivalent plus additional specialized training in inspection procedures.

Experience: Requires a minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in QC inspection for a manufacturing enterprise (including technical cause and effect, problem solving and supervisory experience) in order to gain sufficient skill to perform the requirements of the position.

Skills and Abilities, which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:
  1. Language: Perform reading, writing and speaking at an intermediate level.
  2. Mathematical: Competent in practical application of arithmetic, algebra and geometry; add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure; calculate fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, variables and formulas.
  3. Reasoning: Ability to apply rational principles to solve practical problems and deal with several concrete variables in standardized situations and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  4. Computer skills at an intermediate level.

Computer, printer, Datamyte, Oracle, Excel, Word and label maker software, measuring instruments (calipers, gauges, scales, megamites, etc.), calculator and general office equipment

License(s)/Certification(s) Required: None required.

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
  1. Standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, carrying, reaching, grasping, talking, and hearing.
  1. Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and the ability to bring objects into sharp focus, to identify and distinguish colors.
  1. Light work - exert up to 5 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.


Work Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

Most work done in lab/office environment; some exposure to Production floor with proximity to moving mechanical parts and exposure to high temperatures, noise and dust. Protective clothing that may be required includes: hair net, safety glasses, earplugs and gloves.
