Position Summary

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer plays a key role in ensuring product and process excellence by performing and supporting Quality Assurance functions. This includes first article inspections, handling customer complaints and reports, developing and maintaining inspection plans, managing nonconforming materials, overseeing material review board (MRB) activities, conducting product and process audits, and supporting supplier quality programs. The Quality Engineer also coordinates and maintains process documentation to ensure compliance with HMS's ISO certification requirements. This position is critical for driving quality standards and fostering continuous improvement within the organization.

Essential Job Functions


ISO Coordination

  • Collaborating on the editing and posting of documents to SharePoint.
  • Coordinates owners of company processes/procedures to update documents to be easier to read, more useful and correct.
  • Responsible for maintaining and modifying SharePoint repository of documents and information.

Quality Assurance

  • Functions as a lead internal auditor to develop an internal auditing team as well as develop the annual schedule for internal audits.
  • Develops a supplier program that helps to forge a partnership with suppliers and HMS Networks.
  • Summarizes and interprets measurement results. Participates in engineering team design and documentation decisions.
  • Proficiency leading root cause analysis.
  • Experience with Engineering Change Orders and participating in ECO meetings with quality as the primary focus.
  • Provides fact-based justifications for enhanced, relaxed or terminated inspection operation on a part-by-part basis.
  • Conducts product audits on finished goods and in-process products to ensure internal and external specifications are met. This work is done in coordination with larger scale projects within the Quality Team.
  • Assist with testing of new products, checking electrical specifications on existing products and perform any other quality assurance assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science related discipline preferred, will consider a combination of education and experience in lieu of degree
  • Experience with document coordination, quality assurance or technical writing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with automated optical/mechanical inspection equipment along with manual inspection equipment and techniques.
  • Sufficient experience working in an ISO-certified facility that includes work such as writing procedures, facilitating compliance discussions with manufacturing or engineering, performing quality-related testing or certification.
  • Demonstrates oral and written communication skills to effectively interface with all levels of leadership, staff, and external customers and contacts.
  • Attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping abilities are a must.
  • Must have a basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficiency with English language both written and verbal communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proactive approach to supporting business needs.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 a plus
  • Previous experience with coordinate measurement systems.
