Inspector A & B - (1st Shift)

Schedule: 1st Shift - 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM

Location: Elyria, Ohio

Position Summary:

With guidance or limited supervision in a team environment, this role is responsible for performing a wide range of semi-complex to complex inspection tasks on machined parts, assemblies, and tools using various precision measurement tools. The Inspector ensures compliance with applicable specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:

Inspection Duties:

  • Perform inspection on detailed machined parts, castings, and forgings using a wide variety of measuring instruments.
  • Set up and adapt inspection layouts for sample parts, tool and jig checks, and surface plate inspections.
  • Conduct first article, envelope, in-process, and final inspections.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, charts, route sheets, travelers, and technical documents.
  • Ensure products meet dimensional, cosmetic, and identification specifications.
  • Identify and document defective conditions and test failures. Segregate non-conforming material.
  • Investigate customer return failures and conduct inspections in assembly, test, and shipping departments.
  • Maintain accurate and precise written inspection records, acceptance/rejection logs, and certification documentation.
  • Assist customer/government source inspectors and provide technical support to internal teams.

Calibration (Preferred):

  • Perform semi-complex calibration of measuring and test equipment per defined procedures.
  • Interpret specifications and calibration documents to set up test conditions.
  • Maintain historical calibration data and evaluate for interval adjustments.
  • Calibrate and diagnose newly acquired equipment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate actively in team-based problem-solving, lean initiatives, and high-performance teams.
  • Maintain 5S standards and a clean, organized work environment.
  • Support and train other team members on measurement techniques and quality standards.
  • Engage in continuous learning to maintain job proficiency.
  • May travel to suppliers for product evaluations and failure analysis.
  • May be responsible for assisting in or managing inspection record control and reporting metrics.
  • Must maintain high standards in quality, safety, productivity, and customer service.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1+ years inspection experience required; 3-5 years preferred.
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and familiarity with ANSI Y14.5.
  • Preferred experience with CMM operations.
  • Proficient in interpreting complex blueprints and customer specifications.
  • Knowledge of applicable military and industry standards.
  • Working knowledge of shop math including trigonometry.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Visual inspection skills including color distinction; solder inspection certification preferred.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • May require Level II Nondestructive Test (NDT) Inspector certification (MIL-STD-410, PES1-29).
  • Must be able to participate in FAA/DOT Random Drug and Alcohol Program for safety-sensitive roles.
  • Willing to interact with customer auditors and source inspectors.
