Job Summary: This position is a working lead that monitors internal and external procedures, policies and regulations to ensure quality, safety and legal standards are maintained. Provide direction to Quality Control Technicians. Train new technicians or technicians on loan or transferring from other areas of the manufacturing plant. Provides assistance to a variety of plant lines to ensure quality standards. Key Responsibilities: Work with shift supervision to ensure compliance to company rules, policies and procedures. Promote a safe and fair working environment for plant workers and contractors. Assist Quality Manager with scheduling, back-up and vacation coverage to ensure all lines and shifts have proper quality inspections. Ensure Quality Assurance Technicians perform pre-operations inspection that include cleanliness of lines and equipment is in proper working order. Perform secondary quality inspection to monitor production lines that includes, but are not limited to, mixer operation, oven temperatures, dough temperature, ingredients, and hazard analysis critical control processes (HACCP), make-up area and packaging. Ensure compliance with regulatory and technological changes that may affect the food industry, including Federal Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), AIB International and British Retail Consortium (BRC). Investigate and document any compliance issues. Provide results and recommendations to management. Conduct lab testing related to moisture and ph testing, specification parameter evaluations as well as "bake and texture" analysis. Record finding and complete evaluation forms. Assist in the training and performance management of QA Technicians and other lab personnel Review QA Technician performance against established KPI's and metrics; identify and recommend training needs where gaps exist Calibrate thermometers, scales and pH meters daily. Establish and maintain exception records and note trends for management; develop and monitor corrective/preventative actions for manufacturing as it relates to QA processes Review or perform microbiology testing for product lines, plate samples and read results for a variety of plates (i.e.: Ecoli, coliform, yeast and mold). Participate in BRC and AIB audit as directed by management Collaborate with management to identify and complete relevant training classes and certifications that support development and goals and objectives of Champion Foods. Assists Quality Assurance Manager with other duties and projects as assigned. Keeps current on information and techniques related to food safety. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a food service environment including experience laboratory experience (pH, salt and flour analysis, temperature controls microbiology testing, etc.). Previous experience in quality and food safety in a manufacturing environment, including a minimum of one (1) year experience in Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and working knowledge of Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and United States Drug Administration (USDA) compliance. Previous experience in a position providing formal or informal work direction or training. Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification. Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, make sound business recommendations and exercise discretion and judgment. Evidence of highly developed verbal and written communications skills and the ability to communication technical information to a wide variety of audiences. Demonstrated computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, databases, Internet, etc.). Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: College course work in Food Science or related area. Working Conditions: Works in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and exposure to potentially high noise levels, abnormal temperatures due to freezer and baking area.
