OVERVIEW:

The QC Analytical Chemist is responsible for analytical chemical testing, support of development and validation of the analytical procedures, silicone material formulations, laboratory operations for intra-ocular lens manufacturing facility. Reports to the Manager of QC and Analytical Group.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct the analytical testing/analyses including but not limited to the following: molecular spectroscopy (UV-Vis and FT-IR), wet chemistry, GC, LC (HPLC and GPC). Troubleshooting as needed.
  • Perform the physical testing including but not limited to the following: viscosity, refractive index determination, silicone hardness.
  • Keep data and result records in accordance with cGMP, conduct verification and review of analysis results.
  • Evaluation of the new incoming materials.
  • GMP document revision and document writing as required.

Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Fluency in cGMP level of analytical processes, in particular those needed for biomedical devices
  • Fluency in silicone or other polymer formulations
  • Fluency in chemical methods, both basic (stoichiometry/solution preparations) and advanced (liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, spectroscopy)
  • Background in basic polymer science and technology is preferred
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills
  • Be able to lift at least 30 pounds.

COMPETENCIES:
  • Proficient in sample preparations, wet chemistry, spectroscopy and hands-on experience with analytical procedures such as GC and LC.
  • Expertise in analytical and laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to write protocols and reports.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Creative technical skills to support the innovative approaches.
  • Background in basic polymer science and technology is preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • None

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:
  • B.S, M.S preferred, in chemistry, polymer science, material science, or equivalent;
  • 2+ year experience in GMP industrial manufacturing or testing labs preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • None

COMPUTER SKILLS:
  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheet Software
  • Fluency in common HPLC and GC software is preferred

Salary Description

$80,000 TO $90,000 Per Year
