Vaco is partnering with a technology-driven client in the retail systems space that's looking to bring in a sharp, detail-obsessed Quality Assurance Engineer II to help keep software defects from reaching production. This is more than just bug-hunting-this is about owning the QA lifecycle and elevating engineering outcomes.

You'll be embedded with a small-but-mighty product team working on critical tools that power retail systems nationwide. This is a hybrid onsite role based in Tempe, AZ.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Own end-to-end manual QA processes for application and systems testing across a range of business-critical platforms.
  • Write detailed test plans, test cases, and step-by-step validation procedures from product requirements and user stories.
  • Run regression tests, functional tests, and exploratory sessions in both pre- and post-deployment environments.
  • Log and track bugs through Jira, collaborate with developers for resolution, and confirm patches through retesting.
  • Coach team members on best practices for test case creation, bug reporting, and documentation hygiene.
  • Continually looking for ways to improve test coverage, process efficiency, and documentation clarity.
  • Occasionally pitch in on hardware, networking, or POS testing scenarios, particularly in the retail space.
What We're Looking For:
  • 3+ years in a QA Engineer or Software Tester role, focused on manual testing in agile environments.
  • Strong command of defect lifecycle, regression testing, functional test creation, and documentation best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Jira for issue tracking and Confluence for knowledge management.
  • Clear, proactive communication skills-written and verbal-with the ability to flag issues early and explain them clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a personal commitment to shipping clean, stable code.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
  • Exceptional at writing, organizing, and maintaining test documentation-especially in complex, cross-functional systems.
  • Exposure to JavaScript or Java, and an understanding of how to test API-driven or modular web applications.
  • Previous experience testing retail systems, POS hardware, or network-integrated software.
  • Comfortable working in fast-moving, cross-functional product teams where initiative is welcomed.
Whether you're a QA analyst who's hit a ceiling or a mid-level engineer looking to take more ownership, this is a role that lets you shape quality culture from the inside.
