Job Description Summary
Under direct supervision, the purpose of the job is to enforce local, state, and federal laws, and ensures compliance with college policies and procedures. Provides security for personnel, real property, and equipment. Investigates and documents crimes/incidents, documents and preserves evidence, and provides legal testimony. Maintains a safe and secure learning and working environment, promote staff development and ensures public awareness of health and safety issues. Performs related work as directed.

This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans' Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Minimum Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum Experience/Training:
  • Typically one year of functional experience in related field of work preferred.

Minimum Certification/Licenses:
  • CPR certification required.
  • Class D Guard license or active law enforcement certification required.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required or, as a condition of continued employment, a Valid Florida Driver's License within 30 days after beginning employed by the College.
  • Certification in emergency first aid preferred.
  • Ability to use evacuation chair, fire extinguishers and golf carts required.

Essential Functions:

Daily - 10%: Performs related duties as assigned.

Daily - 10%: Operates miscellaneous equipment including AEDs, Evacu-trac chair, video surveillance, emergency vehicles, and vehicle jump starters.

As Needed - 5%: Trains new employees and provides on-going training.

Daily - 25%: Provides building security, including locking and unlocking doors.

Daily -25%: Patrols college property, in a vehicle or on foot, to provide security and traffic law enforcement.

Daily - 15%: Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, conducts investigations, and prepares detailed reports.

Daily - 10%: Renders first aid at accidents; provides security escort services; provides public assistance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of all systems and procedures relevant to the position which includes fire alarms, intrusion alarms, CCTV, purge systems, key control, emergency procedures, physical structures, in addition to policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population including students, faculty and staff and the general public.
  • General knowledge about law enforcement.
