Position Summary:

This position carries out College public safety functions, including protecting life and property, preserving the peace and order of the College community, and providing various services of response, aid, and customer service to all campus stakeholders. The College Public Safety Officer works effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, follows best practices, makes responsible decisions in the best interest of the College, and provides on-call emergency services for the campus as described in the essential duties and responsibilities. Thisposition will use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

1. Adhere to Departmental Standards as outlined in the FCC College Public Safety Standard Operating Procedures, including expectations for professional conduct and operational responsibilities.2. Serve as Initial Point of Contact for campus incidents occurring during assigned shift until relieved by a higher-ranking officer.3. Provide Security Support during College emergencies, crises, and continuity of operations in accordance with training and direction from supervisors.4. Utilize Public Safety Technologies, such as Galaxy access control, CCTV, and FireWorks, to support the safety and security of the campus community.5. Conduct Regular Patrols and Facility Inspections to identify safety hazards, maintenance concerns, and areas requiring increased monitoring.6. Respond to Emergencies on campus as directed or in accordance with the College Emergency Management Plan; provide CPR, AED, and first aid when necessary.7. Report Operational Issues to supervisors or on-call maintenance personnel, and document all concerns in the appropriate daily log.8. Secure and Access Campus Facilities, including the routine opening and locking of classrooms, offices, windows, and doors.9. Provide Customer Service and Campus Information to students, staff, and visitors, serving as a visible and helpful presence on campus.10. Assist Victims of Policy Violations or Crimes, ensuring appropriate response and notification of relevant authorities.11. Conduct Preliminary Investigations as directed, including collecting statements, preparing reports, and, when necessary, testifying in legal proceedings.12. Protect Confidential Information, including personally identifiable data and case-related records, in compliance with departmental and College policies.13. Report to Work During College Closures as required to support emergency response and critical operations.14. Support Weather Monitoring and Emergency Notification by reporting hazardous weather conditions to the Shift Supervisor as appropriate.15. Assist with Access Control Functions, including temporary management of door schedules as directed by a supervisor.16. Support Identification and Key Management by creating ID cards and managing key distribution/collection upon supervisor request.17. Carry and Use Department-Issued Equipment, such as radios, duty cell phone, flashlight, gloves, and other assigned gear in accordance with training.18. Work Assigned Shifts Including Holidays and Closures, as scheduled by department supervisors.19. Rotate Between Shifts and Locations based on departmental needs and as determined by the supervisory team.20. Perform Other Duties as Assigned.

Additional Requirements:
Must pass a state background check as required by MSP Licensing. Must pass a drug (CDS) screen. Successful completion of a criminal background check that includes: no felony convictions, including guilty pleas or nolo contendere pleas to felony charges or any misdemeanor involving drug or weapons, criminal violations, theft or other misdemeanors involving moral turpitude, and acts of dishonesty Uniformed officer position: uniform provided by Frederick Community College Pre-employment, post-offer drug test and physical examination required

Required Minimum Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma/GED2. Experience related to security/public safety, fire service, EMT, first responder, or law enforcement3. Valid Driver's license and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle4. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in seasonal weather conditions5. Ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and traverse stairs

Desired Qualifications:

1. Associates degree or equivalent military experience2. Previous experience in an educational environment3. Current First Aid, CPR/AED Certification, or ability to become First Aid CPR/AED certified at the next training session4. Proficiency and experience in a second language (Preferably, Spanish and/or American Sign Language)5. Experience using public security codes, policies, and regulations6. Experience using access control systems, CCTV, security department report writing/incident logging software, and building alarm systems7. Experience in performing building security and lock procedures8. Experience with first response practices, investigative practices, incident command and/or crisis response procedures, incident/accident or criminal interviews/ interrogations, parking enforcement, and public relations9. Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation10. Excellent communication skills11. Experience detecting problems and reporting information to appropriate personnel

Work Schedule:

7:00am - 3:00pm

1 day shift position for Saturday - Wednesday (Thursday/Friday off)
1 day shift position for Wednesday - Sunday (Monday/Tuesday off)
