Position Details Under direct supervision, the Part-Time Police Records Clerk performs a varied and increasingly responsible law enforcement communication and clerical duties including data entry, typing, report processing, greet and assist the public; other duties as assigned.

Examples of Essential Functions Receives reports, complaints, and requests for service from the public and City departments both in person and by telephone, and process or dispatch to appropriate division or supervisor; retrieve, process and disseminate reports and information in accordance with all applicable laws, policies, and regulations; process police reports, warrants and subpoenas requests for information from authorized personnel regarding vehicle registration, driving records, warrant information and criminal history information, and provide pertinent data as allowed by law; contact appropriate agencies; operate a computer and other specialized equipment; perform matron duties: search female prisoner (female Police Records Clerk only) and aid in booking of subjects and compile data for reports and maintain files and logs. Compile checks and tabulate statistical data; create charts and tables; classify and distribute reports and information; retrieve files; order and inventory supplies; greet visitors and the general public.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications Requires knowledge of office practices, procedures, computers and other commonly used office equipment, specialized computer systems, and specialized equipment, and to learn and interpret complex rules and procedures involved in maintaining police records and files; remain organized and work well under extreme pressure; to quickly and accurately relay information to law enforcement personnel in both routine and emergency situations; search female prisoners (female Police Records Clerk only) for weapons and contraband; familiar with common word processing programs, spell and use correct grammar; follow directions; and work cooperatively with others.
Education & Experience: Graduation from high school or its equivalent and two years of general clerical or related experience involving data entry, computer use and public contact. Experience working in law enforcement agency is highly desirable. A valid California driver's license is required at the time of employment.
Certification: Must type at a corrected speed of at least 40 wpm. All applicants must submit a CERTIFICATE OF TYPING PROFICIENCYwith their application. Typing certificates must be a 5-minute timed typing certificate noting a net speed (after errors) of 40wpm or more. This certificate must be dated no later than 6 months before the application due date and provided from an accredited school, agency, facility or institution that is deemed acceptable by the City's Human Resources Department.
Other Requirements: - Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Must be willing to work day, "swing", "graveyard" and rotating shifts, as well as holidays and weekends.

Initial appointment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a City paid physical examination, drug screening, background check and verification of U.S. Citizenship or right to work in the United States. CITY OF BELL GARDENS POLICE DEPARTMENT We are committed to providing the highest level of service to the community, while working with the residents and our members, demonstrating professionalism, integrity and accountability. The Bell Gardens Police Department is comprised of the Communication Center, Gaming Unit, Parking Enforcement, Patrol Unit, Records Unit, and Traffic Unit. The Communication Center is staffed 24 hours a day to receive and dispatch calls for services. The dispatch center receives approximately 20,000 calls for service per year.
