ABOUT US:
Wayfinder Behavioral Health is an outpatient treatment center located in Watertown, Massachusetts. We provide an intensive outpatient program (IOP), partial hospitalization program (PHP), medication-assisted treatment (MAT), individual therapy, and family counseling for adults with primary substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health challenges. Our experienced clinical team integrates evidence-based and experiential modalities to provide a holistic and client-centered approach to healing and recovery.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) is responsible for all nursing related duties for adult clients with primary substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. This role includes conducting psychiatric/medical evaluations, formulating diagnoses, developing and managing treatment plans, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care across the treatment continuum.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct psychiatric/medical evaluations for clients with mental health and substance use disorders.
- Prescribe and manage medications, including naltrexone, suboxone, and Vivitrol, in collaboration with the Medical Director. Assess for and monitor potential allergies and adverse reactions.
- Schedule and manage all client appointments, including initial evaluations and follow-ups.
- Provide personalized education and guidance on medication use, side effects, and adherence.
- Support clients in developing healthy routines that foster sustained recovery.
- Facilitate medication-assisted treatment (MAT) groups as needed.
- Utilize the KIPU ePrescribe system or communicate directly with pharmacies to ensure timely and accurate medication fulfillment.
- Complete efficient, accurate, and timely documentation in compliance with Wayfinder Behavioral Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse Services (BSAS), and Joint Commission standards.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Practices psychiatric care within the scope of a licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, providing evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders in outpatient and partial hospitalization settings.
- Ability to document patient encounters, manage administrative duties, and use electronic health systems efficiently.
- Flexibility and adaptability to evolving clinical and organizational needs.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
- Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in good standing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Possession of valid DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration (MCSR) credentials.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience, including at least 3 years in substance use treatment settings.
- Academic affiliation preferred but not required.
