Location: Moriarty, NM
Shape the Future of Aerospace.
Joining my Space client, you won't just find a job, you'll discover a career with purpose. Join them and be part of a team committed to shaping the future. My client has built the first ever platform designed for long-endurance flight at high altitude. From the stratosphere they unlock unprecedented ways of connecting the unconnected and offer earth observation enabling them to protect the planet and monitor the triggers of climate change.
Enjoy competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and a work environment where creativity and innovation thrive.
Job Purpose
As a Propulsion Systems Engineer, you will contribute to the design, analysis, development, testing, and integration of electrical propulsion systems for their stratospheric airships. This role requires strong fundamentals in mechanical and electromechanical systems, a hands-on approach to prototyping and testing, and a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
Engineering & Development
- Design and analyze components for electric propulsion systems, including motors, propellers, gimbals, electromechanical actuators, and related mechanisms.
- Perform simulations (FEA, CFD, thermal) and apply design-for-manufacturing-and-assembly (DFMA) principles.
- Support tolerance stack analyses, fatigue and reliability assessments, and failure mode evaluations (FMEA).
- Develop detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
- Execute bench tests, dyno tests, environmental tests, and system-level integration and flight tests.
- Analyze test data and contribute to system validation and performance improvements.
- Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving efforts to refine designs.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with engineers across multiple disciplines including Vehicle Architecture, Power Systems, Software, and Manufacturing.
- Maintain thorough design documentation, test plans, and traceability through product data management (PDM) systems.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and integrate lessons learned into future designs.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design of complex electromechanical systems.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD and engineering simulation tools.
- Strong foundation in kinematics, dynamics, thermal analysis, and structural mechanics.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Nice to Haves
- Advanced degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
- Hands-on experience with composite materials and structures.
- Familiarity with propulsion system design from concept through production.
- Background in systems engineering and working in cross-functional teams.
- Experience with design processes for extreme environments (e.g., high altitude, space).
Why?
My client combines innovation with a mission to create a sustainable future. Along with competitive salaries and benefits, enjoy:
