Position Description: The University of Louisville and the Department of Planning, Design & Construction are inviting applicants to apply for the Project Specialist II position. This position will facilitate installation of interior and exterior campus signage including, but not limited to, gateway signage, vehicular and pedestrian wayfinding signage, campus map stands, regulatory signage, interpretive signage, and donor recognition signage. Maintain and update the mapping for all three-university campuses. Provide assistance with the updating of the space and building inventory. Basic graphic design of interior and exterior signage, environmental graphics, and wayfinding.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Maintain University Signage Standards and Guidelines. Continue implementation of new signage standards into any new signage installed on campus. Develop product specifications and installation guidelines for both interior static and electronic signage and exterior monument and building signage.
- Provide critical thinking to strategize on new signage types or locations to anticipate short- and long-term implementation challenges and to maintain the signage standards.
- Work with department leadership on campus wide signage strategies and associated costs.
- Utilizing the 2024 Campus Master Plan Signage Standards, design new or replace existing interior and exterior campus signage as required.
- Work with the City of Louisville or the State of Kentucky to ensure signage installed in the right of way meets applicable codes. Acquire signage permits as required.
- Independently scope, develop, and manage signage and wayfinding projects of various size, cost, and complexity. Work with university constituents to define and optimize the scope of proposed projects within budget constraints.
- Facilitate the procurement process, including bidding, selection of contractors and vendors, and requisitioning. Oversee installation of requested signage.
- Prepare or coordinate the preparation of conceptual plans required for project approval, including the preparation of timelines and budgets for signage remodeling and construction projects.
- Maintain, update, and create the mapping for all three campuses using ArcMap, GIS & related software as a foundation for mapping and exporting to AutoCad. Campus maps are utilized by the Physical Facilities staff, OCM, outside architectural consultants, and various state reporting.
- Serve at the UPDC Point of Contact on the Temporary Signage Committee
- Survey existing conditions of exterior spaces including bus shelters, sidewalks, and pedestrian pathways throughout campus.
- Provide property reporting using the LOJIC data base system.
- Provide AutoCad drawing support for the Space and Building inventory in helping with the ongoing updating of the existing building database and the addition of new facilities. Assistance with the physical measuring of existing or newly acquitted facilities.
- Utilize graphic design software to create renderings for various projects such as, but not limited to, signage, interior/exterior design projects and mapping. Prepare presentation documents for leadership review and approval.
- Provide overall support for the Director and staff of UPDC, the VPPF and staff of Physical Plant and University COO if necessary.
- Perform related duties as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Working knowledge of AutoCad, ArcMap & related software
- Basic graphic design software (Photoshop and/or Adobe Illustrator)
- Proficiency with accessing and creating reporting in the LOJIC online database
- Basic Excel & Word (estimating & word processing)
- Basic knowledge of the Archibus inventory software
- Basic photography, Outlook or related software for e-mail, web browsing
- Familiarity with materials and installation techniques or multiple types of signage
- Experience working with or for signage
- Familiarity with local, state, and ADA compliant signage ordinances and codes
