Job Title: Project Manager - Small to Mid-Cap Retrofit Projects

Location: Multiple U.S. locations including Bellingham, WA; Billings, MT; Bismarck, ND; Minneapolis, MN; Spokane, WA; Vancouver, WA

(Relocation assistance available for candidates willing to move)

Compensation:

Target base salary range: $140,000 - $160,000, with potential up to $170,000 for exceptional candidates.


Summary:

  • Responsible for planning, organizing, monitoring, and managing multi-discipline engineering activities and resources to execute all stages of small- to mid-cap retrofit projects, from initiation through closeout. This role requires an engineering background with experience in pulp & paper, petroleum refining, hydrocarbons, high tech, or specialty chemicals industries preferred. The Project Manager holds single-point accountability to lead project teams and successfully meet project objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain effective interaction with clients and project stakeholders to define and manage expectations.
  • Ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled.
  • Focus on client care and satisfaction; escalate issues to management as needed.
  • Promote company capabilities and expand scope of services where valuable.
  • Review and understand proposals, contracts, and associated risks.
  • Manage proprietary and confidential information appropriately.
  • Deliver projects according to proposal, client, and company expectations.
  • Develop Work Breakdown Structures, project proposals, and execution plans including scope, cost, schedule, risks, and resource allocation.
  • Define clear division of responsibilities among client, company, and other parties.
  • Clarify roles, responsibilities, and interfaces among project teams.
  • Foster an environment that enables project objectives to be met effectively.
  • Maintain and monitor project schedules, dependencies, critical paths, and deliverables.
  • Identify, manage, and document project risks with appropriate response strategies.
  • Manage changes proactively, adjusting budgets, schedules, and scopes as approved.
  • Communicate clearly and maintain accurate records.
  • Provide timely project updates to team and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report progress, costs, risks, and quality, recommending corrective actions as needed.
  • Facilitate timely submission and review of deliverables/work packages.
  • Ensure orderly project completion with proper documentation and lessons learned.
  • Review and approve client invoices and expedite payments.
  • Manage resources efficiently to meet project goals.
  • Support personnel development and foster teamwork across offices.
  • Set clear priorities and persistently drive projects to completion despite challenges.
  • Encourage open communication and timely conflict resolution.

Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical preferred); Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with engineering and project management in pulp & paper, petroleum refining, hydrocarbons, high tech, or specialty chemicals industries. Consulting experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of critical path scheduling techniques and tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6.
  • Minimum 5 years as project manager on capital projects, preferably small to medium retrofit projects.
  • Experience managing remote project teams and resources.
  • Willingness to travel domestically to job sites as required.

Certifications & Requirements:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desirable.
  • Eligibility to obtain or currently hold Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is required.
  • Must have legal right to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship provided).

  • Ability and willingness to visit client industrial facilities, comply with safety policies, and wear personal protective equipment.
  • Must pass drug and alcohol screening, background checks, and meet driving/insurance requirements for company vehicle use.
  • Ability to communicate, read, and write English proficiently.
  • Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including lifting up to 50 pounds, and navigating industrial environments safely.
  • Adaptability to loud, potentially hazardous work sites with exposure to mechanical parts, fumes, and confined spaces.
