The project:
Join our project management consultancy that operates across five global hubs, overseeing work for leading organizations in the public and private sectors. We are seeking a Mechanical Handling & Moorings Assistant Package Manager in Plymouth for a large infrastructure project supporting HMNB Devonport. Mace, as Delivery Partner to Babcock, is supporting major upgrades for nuclear fleet submarines, including dock upgrades to optimize maintenance. Your role involves planning, managing, and overseeing the mechanical handling and mooring design and manufacturing works, ensuring project goals are met within schedule, budget, and safety standards. Effective communication with clients, contractors, and stakeholders is essential.

Oversee procurement, review, and select subcontractors.
Support construction teams to meet delivery schedules.
Manage contractor reporting and progress meetings.
Monitor contractor design, programme, and safety compliance.
Review quality sign-offs and factory acceptance testing.
Manage scope changes, technical document approvals, and RFIs.
Report contractor performance monthly.
Coordinate with the Temporary Works Coordinator.
Ensure package close-out upon completion.

Requirements:
Experience with engineering design processes.
Knowledge of procurement and contracts, especially NEC.
Experience in mechanical handling, cranes, or marine projects.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Effective influencing and leadership skills.
Good communication abilities.
Experience in regulated industries (e.g., Rail, Aviation).
Engineering degree or equivalent qualification (BTEC/HNC).
CSCS certification.
Nuclear and Defence sector experience is preferable.
Additional skills:
Understanding of crane design standards (BS 7121, EN 13001, EN 13849).
Knowledge of relevant legislation (CDM 2015, PUWER 1998, LOLER 1998).
Membership of professional bodies (RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE) or equivalent.
Experience in project management within property or infrastructure sectors.
Financial and commercial awareness.
Stakeholder relationship skills.
Understanding of sustainability and carbon considerations in projects.
