Role Overview:
The Project Engineer focuses on defining the technical and application scope for new projects, quoting custom equipment, and understanding customer processes. The Project Engineer will work closely with customers and sales teams, both remotely and onsite, to manage projects ranging from several thousand to several million dollars. Key responsibilities include preparing project costs and layouts, communicating with customers, conducting design reviews, and overseeing project financial performance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and apply detailed customer specifications to project designs, ensuring alignment with requirements.
- Process customer inquiries and RFQs to create technical and commercial proposals.
- Prepare data sheets and detailed equipment specifications tailored to customer needs.
- Attend kick-off meetings to transfer pre-sale knowledge to the sustainment engineering team.
- Collaborate with suppliers and the Purchasing Department to prepare costs and select third-party equipment.
- Maintain project schedules and cost-tracking documentation.
- Communicate professionally with customers, sub-suppliers, and internal stakeholders, ensuring timely follow-ups.
- Travel to customer offices and job sites as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: At least 3 years in engineered systems projects; project management and estimating experience is advantageous.
- Skills: Proficiency in engineering drawings, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and technical documentation. Strong proposal-writing and multitasking abilities.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the plastics industry and extrusion is a plus.
- Technical Tools: Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and SolidWorks; SAP experience is a bonus.
- Travel: Ability to travel up to 15-20%.
