Position Summary:
The Project Controls Director (PCD), based in Tarrytown and reporting to the Program Director or designated department head, is responsible for overseeing the financial performance of capital projects. This role leads the Project Controls Program, including tracking, managing, and reporting on budgets, commitments, spending, and other key financial metrics. The PCD collaborates closely with Program Directors, Project Managers, the Project Controls team, and departments such as Tax, Audit, and Finance to ensure accurate financial oversight. The PCD also supports executive-level reporting, contributes to leadership presentations, and ensures financial controls and documentation are in place throughout the life cycle of each project.
Job Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight
- Lead tracking of budgets, commitments, and expenditures across all projects.
- Oversee updates and reporting for Master Control and individual project budgets.
- Support allocation of complex purchase order commitments and spend.
Executive-Level Reporting
- Prepare and distribute Executive Project Controls reports.
- Participate in executive and leadership presentations and meetings.
Schedule Review
- Review and analyze Master Program Schedule and project schedules.
Funding & Budget Tracking
- Support funding request tracking.
- Manage tracking of budget transfers and related updates in internal systems.
Commitment & Spend Monitoring
- Track all project-related financial commitments and spending.
- Confirm new commitments align with approved budgets.
Tax & Audit Support
- Collaborate with Tax Team on Sales Tax Exemption Program reporting.
- Work with the Internal Audit team to support monitoring, documentation, and remediation plans.
Risk & Closeout
- Oversee tracking of financial risks for projects.
- Ensure proper documentation for project financial closeout.
Job Requirements:
Skills and Abilities
- Strong executive communication and presentation skills.
- Capable of leading daily, weekly, and monthly project reporting.
- Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and financial systems.
- Experience in financial report creation for senior leadership.
- Ability to lead within large-scale, multi-year construction projects.
- Strong interpersonal and team management skills.
- Self-directed with a willingness to learn new tools and systems.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Capital Finance preferred.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in construction financial reporting or project accounting.
- 10 years of equivalent experience accepted in lieu of a degree.
