Project Accountant Job Overview

Our clients are two design-led, fast-growing businesses specializing in high-end architecture, interiors, and project management. They are seeking a highly capable and detail-oriented Project Accountant to oversee financial operations, deliver insightful reporting, and support profitability across both businesses. The successful candidate will lead internal financial reporting, manage month-end processes, and handle project-level accounting. Your focus will be on delivering accurate financial data and supporting decision-making through analysis and insight.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Bookkeeping & Controls: Oversee accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, VAT returns, CIS compliance, and supervise a bookkeeper.
  2. Project Accounting: Manage revenue recognition, project cost accruals, weekly project cashflows, and profitability tracking. Maintain project dashboards and provide actionable insights.
  3. Month-End Reporting: Complete full month-end close (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, WIP, KPIs, forecasts) for both entities within 5 working days.
  4. Systems & Operations: Maintain Xero, manage payroll instructions, calculate sales commissions, process supplier payments, and support year-end accounts (outsourced).
  5. Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and systems.
Requirements
  • Part-qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with experience in a project-based sector (e.g., construction, architecture, or production).
  • Strong knowledge of Xero and high proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to deliver full month-end and project reporting independently.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with attention to detail.
