The Community Services Department is committed to providing quality services, activities, programs, and facilities for all those who live, learn, work, and play in the City of Torrance.The City of TorranceCommunity Services Department is is seeking Program Leaders to staff their Administrative Services Division. This is a recurrent, part-time, hourly, as needed position. Program Leaders support the Community Services Department in delivering programs and events.
The Department The mission of the
Community Services Departmentis to enrich the community through the provision of recreational, cultural, and educational opportunities for persons of all abilities. The
Community Services Departmenttakes pride in "Enriching the Community through People, Programs, and Partnerships". The Department is a diverse organization which consists of five Divisions that work collaboratively to meet the vision, mission, and goals of the department: Administrative Services, Cultural Services, Library Services, Parks Services, and Recreation Services.
Program Leaders will handle a variety of class registrations, answer and make phone calls, file and sort documents, assist customers with online registration, and handle a variety of public inquiries including questions regarding the Department's programs and events, City Protocol, and locations of other Civic Center activities.
Program Leadersalso track Facility Booking and Facility Reservations, as well as giving information to customers about park amenities.Job Duties The following duties represent the principal job duties; however, they are not all inclusive.
- Register patrons for activities using Windows based software programs;
- Assist customers with the online registration process;
- Process and file forms and paperwork;
- Proof the database;
- Answer and make phone calls; and
- Assist the public with questions regarding Department programs and City activities.
Hours: This is a recurrent, part-time, non-civil service, as needed position. Hours are approximately 10 - 20 hours per week, 1 - 5 days either 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 - 5:30 p.m. Staff will be required to work occasional evenings until 7:00 p.m. and some Saturdays.
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINESSix (6) months of recent, paid or volunteer part-time work experience directly related to recreation or community programs and services involving public contact.
Ideal Candidate In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess:
- Previous customer service experience;
- Excellent proficiency with MS Office and Internet skills;
- A positive and friendly demeanor;
- Ability to remain poised and professional during all interactions with the public;
- Familiarity with City programs and departments is desired.

Health Insurance (sec. 4.7)
Employee working more than 30 hours per week on a regular basis over 12 months will receive one-party part-time health coverage ($383.66).
Bereavement Leave (sec 4.2)
Up to five (5) working days leave without pay
Holidays (Sec 4.4)
Holiday pay of four (4) hours for Christmas Day (Dec. 25), New Year's Day (Jan. 1), Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, and Veteran's Day.
To be eligible, employee MUST work at least 12 hours during pay period in which holiday falls.
Deferred Compensation (sec. 4.6)
