Summary of Position:


The Program Director (PM) reports directly to the CEO and works with the program team ensuring programmatic strategic initiatives and goals are met. The PM will maximize the potential of current program offerings and oversee program implementation activities including: programming alignment with Girls Inc. program model, program scheduling and administration, curriculum development, staff development and partner relationships.


The PM will manage the Senior Coordinators and Managers who oversee programming across the STRONG, SMART and BOLD program framework including: Eureka, STEM, EmpowerHER and College and Career Readiness. In coordination with the program team, the Program Director will serve as a content expert in all programming and as a resource for evaluation and grant management questions.


The Program Director will serve as a leader who will build strong partnerships with school districts and other community organizations and, in coordination with the CEO and serve as a visible and effective advocate and spokesperson for Girls Inc. programs. The PD will lead in key areas of data management (including systems), outcome -driven evaluation, communication, and outreach and recruitment. The PD will lead in the development and implementation of the Girls Inc. experience.


This is a full-time position, who reports directly to the CEO/Executive Director. The position requires some travel and occasional after hours programming.



Goals and Responsibilities:

The Program Director will understand, embrace, and execute the mission and vision of Girls Inc.

Experience, grounded in youth development principles, by leading the Girls Inc. San Diego affiliate in:


Program Strategy and Fund Development support 25%

  • Develop a Program Strategy that fits with National and GISD Strategic Plans
  • Provide strategic direction on activities or events for recruitment efforts
  • Lead expansion of school districts and/or community organization partnerships
  • Provide strategic planning for the program department based on growth and trends
  • Work collaboratively with CEO in aspects of grant reporting and adhering to grant requirements

Program Management and staff development 50%


  • Develop, manage, and oversee program MOUs and other contracts to ensure that GISD staff and site is meeting agreed contract
  • Meet with Principal and/or school personnel at least twice annually
  • Create and maintain program schedules and tracking tools
  • Review all grant funding programming, grant reporting deadlines, and adhering to grant requirements
  • Recruit, hire and train qualified facilitators as needed and as budget dictates
  • Develop goals and objectives for facilitators using GISD Strategic Plan; continually monitor and provide feedback to each facilitator
  • Conduct annual performance reviews of each facilitator and set goals and objectives for performance standards
  • Attend all program delivery on a rotating basis
  • Conduct weekly program staff meetings and/or staff development
  • Monitor expenses and projected school budgets

Data Management and Outcome Driven Evaluations - In Collaboration with Operations Manager 15%

  • Manage and oversee the data collection and reporting for Compass 360 (already established)
  • Manage and oversee the data collection and timely reporting for grant and contract compliance
  • Understand and conduct the SSBOS and prepare for Executive Director, Board and/or National to show how our programs are impacting the girls we serve (already established)

  • Host and attend information sessions with current partners and potential site/community partners to showcase Girls Inc.
  • Periodically meet with parents to explain the GI Experience, programs, events, opportunities, and surveys
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and conferences to further professional development
  • Keep Executive Director informed of problems, concerns, incidents, needs, and trends
  • Complete all paperwork related to administrative responsibilities in a timely manner
  • Act as a back-up as needed for programming at partner sites

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and interest in youth development, gender equity, social justice, cultural issues, and community engagement
  • Bachelor's degree required with focus in education, social work, social sciences and/or child development. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum two years of direct experience in program development, facilitation and/or curriculum development for elementary to high school youth
  • Experience and/or exposure to managing program budgets
  • Ability to supervise, motivate, cultivate, train and evaluate program staff
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with ability to receive, consolidate and provide feedback in a constructive way.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency/crisis situations and serve as mandatory reporter.
  • Experience and fluidity in the most current technology platforms: Zoom, Google Meet, Canva, Google drive
  • Ability to build relationships and interface with persons from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends, when needed.
  • Experience with developing and managing program budgets
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to multitask under pressure.
  • A current valid driver's license and reliable transportation
