Description of Job

About the Work Unit

This position is located in CDOT's Region 2 Survey / Right-of-Way Unit in Pueblo. This unit supports the delivery of the Right-of-Way (ROW) program for the development and maintenance of the State Transportation System in Region 2. The (ROW) program survey unit is responsible for ensuring statewide consistency for all Land surveying and (ROW) plan functions.

About the Position

This position is in responsible charge of Professional Land Survey work, as assigned, within the Right-of-Way Survey / Plans Unit performing or managing office and field land survey functions in support of Region 2 Transportation Projects. Utilize survey knowledge, expertise, and Professional Land Surveyor license to ensure accurate ROW plans are generated.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•   Perform field surveying including Control Survey, TMOSS (Terrain Modeling Survey System) topography surveys, and Boundary Survey field work.
•   Includes recovery, establishment, and restoration of controlling land corners, property and ROW (Right Of Way) corner evidence, Bench Marks and other existing monuments.
•   Evaluate survey field notes, evidence, and researched information by using mathematics, computer software, and knowledge of laws pertaining to land surveying.
•   Research survey data, establish survey control, field data collection, data interpretation, preparation of plans, legal descriptions, preparation and recording of legal documents, monumentation, and consultant management.
•   Provide leadership, guidance, and training to other survey positions within the region.
•   Conduct research of property adjoining State ROW when identifying ownership.
•   Determine positions of property lines and corner positions based on field work and examination of boundary data found in deeds, plats, historic Right-Of-Way Plans, design plans, and other sources.
•   Create ROW Plans by drawing, labeling, and annotating ROW lines, property lines, topography and other features using Bentley OpenRoads software.
•   Calculate areas of land parcels and easements to be acquired using mathematics and computer software.
•   Stamp and sign ROW Plans and descriptions as required by State Law.
•   Provide estimated schedules for field surveying and/or ROW Plan preparation.
•   Prepare, certify, and file all necessary documents with the appropriate agencies as required by state statute and by the State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.
•   Communicate with Project Design Personnel, Right-Of-Way Acquisition Personnel, Surveyors in the Unit.
•   Attend survey unit meetings, Project meetings, FIR (Field Inspection Review), FOR (Final Office Review) and facilitate ROWPR (Right-Of-Way Plan Review) and Pre-Construction Survey meetings.
•   Must ask questions, provide input, and support the development of construction plans and ROW plans.
•   Find, catalog, and file existing highway Right-of-Way information and documents.
•   Provide filed ROW information to internal units, specialty units, other public agencies, and the public as requested (CORA).
•   Investigate and communicate the Region's response, orally or in writing, to external customer requests concerning survey and Right-Of-Way Plan activities.
•   Other job duties as assigned. Work Environment:
•   Primarily 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM work hours, Monday-Friday with the opportunity for a flexible schedule
•   Combination office environment and field work at project sites; approximately 75% spent in the office, 25% spent in the field.
•   Travel required during work hours throughout the Region for assigned projects, meetings, etc.
•   Occasional overnight travel 1-3 times a year throughout Colorado
•   Required to operate CDOT vehicles
•   Required to work in all types of weather
•   Required to work in mountain terrain (altitude), including climbing to some areas
•   Required to work near heavy traffic areas
•   Must be able to lift survey equipment up to 50 lbs. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications
•  Current, valid licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors Current, valid licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor from the Colorado State Board issued by another state. Please Note: The required experience must be substantiated within the work experience section of your application.
