About This Role:

The Professional Academic Coach is a part-time (19.5 hours per week) professional staff position who is responsible for helping students develop skills, behaviors and habits, which lead to success in college. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Academic Support and collaborates extensively within STAR Services, as well as across campus with academic and student service departments, faculty, and staff.
What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group coaching to students on academic probation.
  • Administer and interpret LASSI assessment results.
  • Document and maintain records of coaching sessions, student outcomes, and outreach attempts.
  • Provide academic coaching and academic support workshops and presentations.
  • Participate in professional development as well as academic coaching and student success research.
  • Utilize EAB Navigate system (or other software system identified by the university) for appointments, communication, and reporting.

  • Knowledge of academic coaching best practices and learning development theory.
  • Superior oral/written communication skills.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft applications.
  • High level organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in a highly collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to represent Lamar University with high levels of professionalism and customer service.

Physical Requirements:
  • Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing.
  • Frequent standing, and/or sitting.
  • Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms.
  • Visually identify, observe and assess. Regular physical attendance required.

Job Conditions: Typical schedule is M-F 8am-5pm, with some evening work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • One year of relevant experience.
