Title: Process Technician II
Location: Concord, NC
Duration: 12 Months


Location of job is Client Optical Fiber facility in Concord, North Carolina.

If additional training is needed, may visit Wilmington, NC.

Job Description:


Scope of Position and Location:
Lead all aspects of break source analysis including coordinating break end collection, completing in depth microscopy analysis to identify break sources and provide summary reports.
Works with Lab Microscopy to coordinate any SEM/EDS analysis.


Day to Day Responsibilities:
Provide daily support and ensure beak end collection, analyzing the break ends, identifying the break sources, and providing summary reports.
Maintain (cleaning, calibration etc.) the necessary equipment (e.g. microscope, lighting etc.) to ensure break source analysis conducted is accurate and on time.
Summarize the break sources that are identified by equipment and other processes to allow for special versus common cause understanding.
Interact with Microscopy/SEM lab as needed (both in Wilmington and Concord) to facilitate deeper autopsy of breaks as part of root cause analysis.
Attend daily project and/or production meetings and effectively communicate requirements as needed for ensuring adequate break samples are collected for analysis.
Assist in continuously improving effectiveness of troubleshooting checklists by providing microscopy analysis summaries that allows for faster root causing of issues.
Train individuals (e.g. in Operations) on best practices related to break end collection and handling.
Participate in project teams to deliver robust and cost-effective solutions to reduce breaks.
Accurately estimate timeframe to complete work and then complete work to agreed-to timeline.
Individual must be capable of executing project assignments in a team-based environment and with minimal supervision.
Follow Safety protocols and adhere to client Values in all work interactions.


Travel Requirements:
None as part of daily working.
Hours of work/work schedule/flextime:
8am 5pm standard work hours
May need to work extra hours as needed by project.


Required Education and Experience:
Associate degree in Science or Engineering related field
At least 2 years' experience using microscopy techniques, experience with failure analysis and/or material characterization a plus
Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to compose reports summarizing results
Knowledge of imaging software and ability to capture suitable images and identify salient features.


Desired Skills:
Exposure to glass, ceramics, process engineering basics.
Knowledge of statistical process control methodology including but not limited to measurements variability understanding and resolution.
Exposure to fractography methods and techniques for breaks analysis.
