Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The process engineer will primarily be involved in the design of new manufacturing processes / equipment and the validation of existing manufacturing processes / equipment by utilizing sound engineering and Lean fundamentals. Process engineer will propose, launch manage projects in order to improve manufacturing with a focus on proper process documentation and change control. Assignments will include daily shop floor support as well as manufacturing projects.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Project Management

  • Risk identification mitigation

  • Ensure projects are technically fit for purpose

  • Work independently to manage internal and external resources

  • Drive lean and productivity improvement initiatives plant-wide through the development and implementation of new processes, equipment and processes.

  • Participate in Lean activities including Kaizen events, 5S, 8D, Preventative Maintenance programs, root cause analysis, 5 Why and other Lean tools to enhance productivity.

  • Assists Global Product Line Managers with new product in the development to meet the demand of our customers in a cost-effective manner.

  • Assist in the transfer of new product development into production ramp-up including capital expenditures, project ownership transition and structured hand-off to manufacturing

  • Research and write Capital Expenditure Requests for new equipment purchases designed to enhance productivity and quality.

  • Assists Plant Manager with cell design and ensuring compliance safety, quality and productivity, while complying with QMS and OSHA requirements.

  • Provides technical support and assistance in problem solving by use of statistical analysis, DOEs and other root cause analytical tools.

  • Drives continuous improvement activities in support of customer corrective actions, internal corrective/preventive actions, error-proofing general process improvement.

  • Develop and maintain schedules for all projects assigned.

  • Preparation of PPAP's for new product and customer qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Communication skills - above average written and verbal communication skills. Engineer will regularly interface with shop floor personnel, technical peers, management and senior leadership.

  • Project Management - write detailed project plans using 3S and 5S techniques and planning in project software such as Microsoft Project.

  • Cooperation Teamwork - must be a strong individual contributor but be able to aid others as needed. Understands the impact of their words and behavior on others.

  • Strong technical troubleshooting abilities in a variety of manufacturing disciplines including demonstrated expertise in a production environment

  • High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.

  • Able to define issues, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Preparation of manufacturing process routings which are mapped to engineering science and data supporting material breakdown-based alloy composition.

  • Understanding of non-ferrous metallurgy and the impact of metalworking processes on material properties, especially as it relates to wire and strip manufacture

  • Machine design / rebuild experience desired

  • Process simulation experience desired

Requirements

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 4 - 10 years of practical, hands on experience in a manufacturing setting.

  • Project management skills and experience required.

  • Exposure to LEAN and SIX SIGMA principles preferred.
