Process Engineer - Plastics

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Process Engineer with a strong background in plastics manufacturing, specifically in injection molding and blow molding processes. This role is responsible for optimizing processing parameters, developing tooling solutions, and driving continuous improvement efforts across our molding operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in plastics processing, mold tooling design, troubleshooting, and process validation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, optimize, and document plastic molding processes (injection and blow molding) for new and existing products.
  • Troubleshoot molding issues related to material flow, cycle times, part defects, and tooling wear.
  • Collaborate with design, quality, and tooling teams to evaluate and improve mold design and performance.
  • Establish and maintain robust process windows and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Lead efforts in DOE (Design of Experiments), process capability studies, and root cause analysis for quality and yield improvements.
  • Participate in tooling trials, mold commissioning, and process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Support preventive maintenance plans and tooling refurbishment programs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements in materials, equipment, and processes to support lean manufacturing and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Provide technical training to operators and technicians as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a plastics manufacturing environment with a focus on injection molding and blow molding.
  • Strong knowledge of plastic resins, mold design, and processing parameters.
  • Experience with tooling design, mold flow analysis, and part/tooling validation.
  • Familiarity with scientific molding techniques, SPC, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
