The Process Engineer is the primary point of contact for all matters concerning the manufacturing process at the La Porte plant. The incumbent acts as the on-shift subject matter expert on the manufacturing process and technical matters related to day to day production and quality.



Essential Duties:

  • Identify and recommend process improvements that will increase yield and reduce cost.
  • Lead and manage Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), ensuring compliance with IEC 61511 and IEC61508 standards.
  • Troubleshoot the production process and act as subject matter expert for all production-related technical matters.
  • Support capital projects, technical and design reviews.
  • Actively support and lead incident investigations, HAZOP studies, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA),
  • Drive standardization across shifts, optimize fixed and variable unit costs, improve quality, and work closely with maintenance to ensure that work is completed promptly.
  • Provide technical expertise to ensure that the DCS effectively monitors and manages plant operations; instruct and train employees on properly utilizing the DCS system.
  • Maintain accurate records, process metrics and documentation according to guidelines, and prepare both regular and special reports as needed;
  • Perform regular walkarounds and inspections to ensure good housekeeping, compliance, hazard recognition, etc.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives across the plant
  • Lead plant and process optimization and improvement projects
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental policies and procedures;
  • Support EHS and other departments in mechanical integrity and other PSM related activities and documentation


Qualifications:


  • This position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. A focus in chemical or mechanical engineering is strongly preferred.

  • PSM experience is preferred.

  • High commitment to safety.At least four years of operations or process engineering experience in refining or specialty chemicals manufacturing is required.
  • Experience configuring, troubleshooting, and operating distributed control systems (DCS) in a plant or refinery or the ability to become proficient in DCS operations is required; experience as a console board operator in a process-intensive operation is highly desired.

  • Strong leadership, coaching and interpersonal skills are required; the successful candidate must be versatile and able to function effectively as a supervisor, team member and peer, depending on the situation; hands on process engineering experience.

  • Familiarity with pumps, dryers, ventilators, hydraulics, high-pressure injection, high temperature applications, reactors, and other common types of process equipment is required.
