Our client, a leader in performance materials and specialty textiles, is looking for a Process Engineer to take ownership of all polymer heat sealing processes across its manufacturing and product development operations. This role is ideal for someone with a strong technical background in materials engineering or thermal bonding and a passion for process optimization and product innovation.
As the organization's in-house expert on polymer heat sealing, you'll lead process development, evaluate new materials, guide external partners, and ensure sealing performance meets the most demanding specifications. This role bridges technical innovation with hands-on execution which is perfect for someone who thrives in both the lab and on the floor.
Projects You'll Work On
- Design, implement, and optimize polymer heat sealing techniques for various materials including films, coated textiles, and composites.
- Collaborate with product development teams to integrate heat sealing methods into innovative designs and prototypes.
- Conduct feasibility assessments for new materials and applications, ensuring compatibility with thermal sealing technologies.
- Guide external manufacturers and partners in setting up, calibrating, and troubleshooting heat sealing equipment.
- Identify and resolve process issues to improve performance, reduce waste, and meet rigorous product standards.
- Refine sealing parameters (temperature, pressure, dwell time) to ensure consistency and product durability.
- Research emerging technologies in thermal bonding and polymer processing, applying relevant advances to internal processes.
- Train team members on safe and effective polymer heat sealing techniques and equipment maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry and safety regulations related to heat sealing and thermal bonding.
What Experience You Should Bring
- Associate's degree required; Bachelor's in Materials Science, Textile Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Deep hands-on experience with polymer heat sealing in a manufacturing or industrial R&D environment.
- Strong knowledge of thermoplastic films, technical fabrics, and coatings used in high-performance applications.
- Familiarity with industry standards for durability, waterproofing, and thermal bond strength.
- Skilled in quality systems, troubleshooting, and implementing continuous process improvements.
- Proficient in ERP systems and technical data analysis.
- Clear communicator with strong vendor coordination and team training experience.
- Ability to develop supplier databases and documentation tools for materials and vendors.
Bonus:
Eligible for a performance-based bonus tied to:
- Implementing working loss reduction initiatives with external processors.
- Developing and maintaining a Supplier Collection Catalog that documents vendor capabilities in films, fabrics, and polymer sealing materials.
