Position Overview
Seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to support the design and development of custom tooling and extrusion processes for plastic profiles and tubing. This individual will play a key role in optimizing quality, reducing waste, and improving manufacturing efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Design tooling and develop processes for mono and co-extruded plastic profiles and tubing.
- Manage end-to-end tooling development for assigned projects, including design, prototyping, and testing.
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to achieve successful first article sample approvals.
- Coordinate internal tooling needs with technicians, machinists, and engineering staff.
- Oversee in-house tooling fabrication activities and maintain high standards of craftsmanship.
- Act as liaison between the machine shop and external vendors when necessary.
- Prioritize machine shop activities in partnership with engineering leadership to meet project deadlines.
- Assist in procurement planning for tooling components and supplies.
- Support extrusion process improvements to increase yield and reduce cycle time.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by participating in cost reduction and scrap minimization initiatives.
- Lead trial runs and process validations for new or modified tools.
- Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to company safety protocols.
- Participate in required annual training programs.
- Maintain technical documentation and project records.
- Bring innovative ideas to improve product and process performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in plastics manufacturing, preferably in extrusion tooling and process development.
- Familiarity with a variety of plastic resins and their processing characteristics.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and CAM software for tooling design.
- Strong project management and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Competent in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
