Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work or other related field: two years of experience in Human Services; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of judicial system, the field of corrections and criminology; working skills in case management and developing/implementing treatment methods: good oral/written community skills; interpersonal and public relations skills necessary. Experience working with groups and teams preferred. Knowledge of basic computer skills necessary. Experience working with the court system; understanding of human behavior and relationships and policies and procedures for criminal justice agencies; ability to listen to and show understanding and concern for people with issues and needs without losing the objectivity necessary to fulfill the orders of the Court. Understanding of the dynamics of criminal thinking and working with offenders. Experience working with individuals with mental health disorders preferred.

Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.

Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years.

This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is strictly prohibited.

Duties
The Dual Treatment Track Pretrial/Probation Officer is responsible for providing the supervision to clients in the community who have an identified Substance Use Disorder and Serious Mental Illness. Supervision is provided in a team approach with clinical personnel providing treatment. Duties include group facilitation; site/home visits, drug/alcohol screens; court correspondence; assessments; intakes, supervision planning; case management and documentation; prepares and presents oral and written court reports and testimony; crisis management; builds and maintains strong working relationships with related departments/agencies, referral for ancillary services. Performs other work as required.

This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.

Shift

Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 5:00p.m.; some evenings and weekends may be required.
