The Principal Engineer is a member of the Infrastructure Team within the Global Technology Services team. This role is responsible for designing the deployment build and patching of all end user technologies. This individual will provide technical leadership and consulting across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the project planning level. The Principal Engineer will gain organizational commitment for all high-level infrastructure plans and initiate and participate in projects to evaluate technologies and methods for implementing these plans. She/he must be self-motivated and must be able to work well in a fast paced, results focused, geographically dispersed, and virtual team environment.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -

Maintain in-depth knowledge of company's strategic business plans.

Architect and implement the strategic roadmap for the virtualization systems hosting platform

Directly responsible for the design, implementation, and engineering support of virtual server solutions that impact multiple clients and business units

Develop, document, communicate, and enforce a technology standards policy

Provide direction for end user enterprise technology and reviews long range plans which meet the requirements of the business

Own and maintain a clear roadmap for the virtualization hosting platform

Design and support of physical and virtual network configurations, setup and configuration of host and system monitoring tools, patching core systems

Identifying and resolving system, storage and network bottlenecks

Develop and maintain relationships with business unit partners to ensure that the team is meeting their needs as we enhance the platform

Provide leadership to peers in the regional IT teams, to build end user platforms that scale with the company's accelerated growth

Develop and ensure execution of high-profile project plans in coordination with the project management team

Work with vendors on future state technology

May conduct or direct long-term strategic planning

Provide guidance to junior members of the team.

ADDITIONAL COMPETENCIES -

Proven experience in systems design and development

Strong understanding of information processing principles and practices

Solid grounding in core enterprise applications

In-depth technical knowledge of network, PC, and platform operating systems

Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards

Hands-on experience with application development tools

Strong knowledge of hardware and software evaluation principles and practice

Proven project planning and management experience

Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws

Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities

Exceptional understanding of the organization's goals and objectives

Superior written and oral communication skills

Excellent technical architecture and technical support documentation skills

Strong interpersonal and consultative skills

Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required

Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS -

10 years of relevant work experience

Expertise deploying and managing VMware hosted environments (vCenter, vSphere, ESXi)

7+ years hands-on experience with physical server or blade hardware infrastructure (Cisco UCS, HPE or Dell)

5+ years scripting in a Linux, Unix, or Microsoft Windows Environment (Bash, Python, Ansible, Powershell)

Experience with SAN technologies, including connectivity (iSCSI, Fiber, NFS), configuration, MPIO, troubleshooting issues.

5+ year extensive experience with developing strategic plans.

5+ years hands-on experience with business requirements gathering/analysis.

Working knowledge of cloud hosting (Azure or AWS)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS -

Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in computer science, engineering, business or a related technical or business field or comparable industry experience.

Relevant infrastructure certifications (VMware VCP or higher preferred)
