Position Description Serco is seeking a motivated and experienced Principal/Senior Principal Network Engineer to join our team in Stafford, Virginia. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting a government customer site, maintaining critical network infrastructure, and ensuring secure, reliable network operations. You will be a key contributor in designing, configuring, and monitoring complex local and global networks with a focus on security, optimization, and compliance. In this role, you will: Maintain smooth operation of local area, global, and VPN networks using Cisco ASA and Firepower devices. Plan, evaluate, and coordinate installation or reconfiguration of network hardware and software. Maintain technical expertise in all areas of networking and system integration including routers, switches, firewalls, and servers. Design networks and select appropriate hardware/software solutions to support operational and cost optimization. Conduct continuous monitoring, analyze logs and alerts, and investigate network anomalies. Perform compliance scanning (STIG, SCAP, vulnerability), validate findings, and support system accreditation. Support system administration functions including account setup, documentation, software installation, and performance tuning. Participate in a 24/7 support rotation approximately every 14 weeks. Qualifications Qualifications Level 3: Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 5 years of relevant experience, or Master's with 3 years, or 9 years of experience in lieu of a degree. Level 4: Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 9 years of relevant experience, or Master's with 7 years, or 13 years of experience in lieu of a degree. Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI and ability to complete a CI polygraph. Security+ or equivalent certification. Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II or higher. Hands-on experience in network design, development, monitoring, and testing. Experience with VLAN configuration, ACL enforcement, and firewall rule sets including NAT and PAT. Strong Windows and Server administration skills. Familiarity with DoD security practices such as STIG compliance and system accreditation. Willingness to travel up to 10%. To be successful in this role, you will have: Proven ability to manage secure network environments. Expertise in integrating and troubleshooting multi-platform network systems. Ability to effectively document findings and recommend network improvements. Additional desired experience and skills: Experience with network modeling tools such as Red Seal. Cisco certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP). Hands-on experience with Firepower or Cisco ISE. Familiarity with SPLUNK integration and auditing tools.
