Principal Satellite Payload Engineer - Executive Technical Role Germantown, MD

Vivid Technology is working exclusively with a global leader in satellite communications, who are seeking a seasoned technical leader to drive innovation in LEO/NTN satellite payload design for a top-tier global satellite communications provider.

This Principal Satellite Payload Engineer role is ideal for a senior professional with a strategic mindset, proven leadership in advanced satellite systems, and a track record of delivering complex space technologies from concept to orbit.

This is a high-impact position offering ownership over the architecture, performance, and manufacturing strategy of next-gen satellite payloads, with influence spanning engineering, vendor partnerships, and product delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define system-level payload requirements and ensure alignment with LEO constellation architecture
  • Lead technical direction in design reviews, trade studies, and supplier selection
  • Oversee high-volume manufacturing and testing strategy for scalable satellite production
  • Evaluate cost vs. reliability and performance vs. user experience across the constellation
  • Act as technical authority with satellite manufacturers and internal cross-functional teams

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred)
  • 15+ years in satellite communications, including 5+ years in LEO constellation development
  • Deep expertise in payload design, Ka-/S-band RF systems, ESAs, and cellular (3G/4G/5G) integration
  • Strong background in satellite manufacturing, test strategy, and vendor oversight
  • U.S. Person status required (due to export control regulations)
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally as needed
