Job Description

Shaping a smarter, more agile world.

You might know us for the great work we do across our wide variety of projects. We're proud to say it's thanks to our people's diversity of thought, expertise and knowledge. When you join us, you'll be part of a genuinely collaborative environment where everyone's voice is valued and treated equally.

We're passionate about what we do, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. This is a great place to be. Ask us about our flexible and remote working policies designed to help you get the most out of life outside of work.

As a Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer in 'Aerospace, Defence, Security and Technology' (ADS&T), you'll play a vital role in shaping your projects. Working alongside talented colleagues across all disciplines, you'll provide safety case leadership, support, and delivery. You'll work closely with clients, leading the development and implementation of solutions to solve complex problems.

Your purpose

We want you to help us deliver significant defence-related programmes across the UK. This includes designing and constructing new infrastructure, life extensions, upgrades, maintaining ongoing operations, and decommissioning. You will be involved in all aspects of safety case support, including:

  1. Shaping the nuclear safety case strategy.
  2. Working closely with project partners to ensure a safety-informed design.
  3. Engaging with stakeholders to facilitate 'Right First Time' delivery (including designers, clients, site, and regulatory bodies such as DNSR, ONR).
  4. Undertaking safety assessments and safety analyses (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, HAZAN).
  5. Producing safety reports and technical documents (e.g., PSR, PCSR, ALARP reports).
  6. Supporting Engineering Substantiation activities.
  7. Managing and leading Safety Case activities and teams.

While your office base will be in Bristol, Manchester, Silchester, or Glasgow, flexibility in work location is essential. Occasionally, our clients may require work to be delivered from their sites.

What you can bring
  • A proven track record in safety, ideally within defence and nuclear domains or other highly regulated industries.
  • Ready to advance your career and join a team offering growth opportunities.
  • Hungry to expand your knowledge and thrive in a challenging but supportive environment.
  • An interest in innovation and problem-solving, embracing digital tools in nuclear safety.
  • Enjoy engaging with others, helping develop and grow their skills.
  • Ability to explain complex ideas clearly, enabling others to understand and achieve more.
  • Approachable, with strong relationship-building skills.
  • Honours Degree (or equivalent) in physics, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline (minimum 2:1).
  • Chartered status or working towards it.
  • Technical practitioner experience in Nuclear/Defence domains, demonstrating good engineering judgment and application of fundamental principles.
