Energy Department The Energy Department manages the end-to-end delivery of power and energy, focusing on sustainability, continuous improvement, innovation, and NetZero targets. Responsibilities include securing high and medium-voltage power connections, deploying infrastructure, and ensuring continuous, sustainable electricity supply to our data centers.
Position Overview We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer (HV, MFGP, Nuclear & Renewable Sources) to lead the technical aspects of energy infrastructure and multi-fuel generation plants across EMEA. The role involves overseeing power infrastructure design and delivery, stakeholder management, and ensuring compliance with standards and customer requirements. Responsibilities include design, specification, review, contractor management, commissioning, and operational transition. Collaboration with cross-functional teams to optimize infrastructure and support strategic energy goals is essential.
Essential Job Functions - Electrical System Design & Innovation: Architect electrical system topologies, including HV substations, cables, and renewable sources like solar, batteries, wind, etc.
- Substation, MFGP, SMR, Renewables & Cable Expertise: Oversee and review power infrastructure packages and specifications.
- Value Engineering: Conduct ROI/IRR analyses and system recommendations for cost and sustainability balance.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interface with engineering, operations, construction teams, and manage contractors and utility SMEs.
- Customer Support: Support sales, customer meetings, and emergency response.
- Project Reporting: Provide weekly updates on project progress, risks, and feasibility.
- Grid and Regulatory Expertise: Knowledge of local grid and regulatory requirements.
- Cross-Function Coordination: Coordinate with utility and project stakeholders.
- Project & Design Management: Oversee project plans, equipment, design, and delivery efforts.
- Compliance and Efficiency: Ensure standards compliance and optimize power operations for efficiency and NetZero goals.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive lessons learned, best practices, and stay updated on new technologies and legislation.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience - Educational Background: Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering (Power Major); chartered status preferred.
- Experience / Expertise: Minimum 7 years in HV electrical design, with preference for HV/EHV systems for data centers.
- Technical Knowledge: Expertise in EU substation design, IEC, BS standards, utility requirements; UK National Grid experience preferred.
- Software Skills: Revit, AutoCAD, MS Office, BIM 360, Navisworks.
- Communication & Leadership: Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Project / Design Management Skills: Technical and commercial aptitude with project management tools.
- Adaptability: Flexible, self-directed, able to work across time zones and environments.
- Travel & Tasks: 20-25% travel expected, with additional tasks as needed.
