Hansell Tierney is currently supporting one of our clients in their search for a Principal Engineer to join a high-impact digital transformation initiative.

Location: Greater Seattle Area, Onsite

Compensation: $160,000 - $220,000 plus RSUs

Our client's digital experience team is shaping the future of large-scale digital retailing-building next-generation cloud-native microservices and mission-critical systems that serve millions of global users. This is an exciting opportunity for a visionary Principal Engineer to lead technical architecture, solve complex problems, and influence the trajectory of a global digital platform.

This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate cross-functionally, mentor talented engineers, and drive scalable solutions in a customer-facing, high-volume environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide architectural leadership for scalable, cloud-native web applications and microservices.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design high-performance systems using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and web frameworks (JavaScript, React, Angular, Node.js).
  • Inspire and mentor engineering teams, cultivating a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and growth.
  • Drive performance optimization, secure data architecture, and distributed systems design in cloud environments (GCP or Azure).
  • Lead initiatives that embed security, resiliency, and observability into all technical solutions.
  • Influence product roadmaps through deep technical insight and cross-functional collaboration with Product, DevOps, Infrastructure, and SRE teams.
  • Simplify complex technical concepts to align teams and foster collaboration across disciplines.
  • Champion software engineering best practices and Agile methodologies (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban, Lean).
Qualifications
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, with expertise in languages such as C , Java, JavaScript.
  • Proven success delivering highly scalable, customer-facing web applications within distributed environments.
  • Extensive experience in:
    • Designing and building microservices architectures in C and Java.
    • Developing modern front-end applications using frameworks like React.
    • Leveraging open-source technologies in cloud-native environments.
    • Working with SQL and NoSQL database systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps toolchains.
  • Expert understanding of design patterns, scalable architecture principles, and engineering best practices.
  • Agile process expertise (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban, or Lean).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and collaborate across functions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Consulting or technical leadership experience.
  • Experience integrating both legacy systems and modern technologies.
  • Background in retail disciplines (e.g., ecommerce, POS, warehouse operations, supply chain).
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace tools (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Gmail).
