JOB SUMMARY: To serve Wings Financial members and business partners by leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and experimental design to better understand our membership and create personalized experiences. The Principal Data Scientist will lead projects from inception to completion, mentor junior team members, and drive new business opportunities through data science initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Solution Development - Employs sophisticated statistical and machine learning models to data sets to identify complex patterns and provide insights into our membership. Thoroughly documents assumptions and limitations of the methods and algorithms used, including comprehensive model refinement techniques and metrics used.
- Authors, deploys, and maintains production-quality code that adheres to best practices, including rigorous testing and error logging. Ensures codes are scalable, efficient, and maintainable.
- Implements a wide variety of advanced methods and algorithms relating to segmentation, market basket analysis, text analytics, forecasting, and behavioral analytics to identify and provide value to Wings membership.
- Utilizes standardized DevOps practice to deploy new models and maintain existing models to ensure continued validity of use, including containerization and regression testing.
- Develops automated workflows to streamline model deployment and maintenance.
- Prepares detailed requirements documents. Thoroughly documents the modeling process.
- Creates comprehensive case study documentation and materials to support knowledge sharing and replication of successful projects.
Business Relationship & Analysis - Designs and executes complex SQL queries, both ad hoc and within views, to access data for exploration and modeling. Conducts thorough exploratory data analysis, prepares data for analysis, appropriately handling missing data and imputation, transformations, and feature generation.
- Translates predictive results into prescriptive insights. Communicates outcomes in a clear and understandable way, tailored to the audience's level of expertise.
- Creates highly effective data visualizations and dashboards to deliver insights to business decision makers. Utilizes advanced visualization techniques to enhance comprehension and decision-making.
- Builds strong, quality relationships with key members of the various business units while clarifying information and analytics needs across business lines. Acts as a trusted advisor and liaison between data science and business units.
- Generates new work for the group by proactively identifying opportunities and collaborating with business partners. Develops proposals and pitches to secure new projects and initiatives.
Data Science Practice Leadership - Employs innovative and creative statistical and machine learning approaches that provide benefit to the credit union. Designs robust experiments to measure the impact of interventions and tests hypotheses using cutting-edge methods.
- Collaborates effectively with team members and business partners to promote and incorporate data science insights. Facilitates workshops with business partners to enhance understanding and application of data science across the organization.
- Continuously pursues education and keeps abreast of the latest developments in data science methods. Actively engages in maturing the data science knowledge of team members through mentorship.
- Mentors data scientists, providing comprehensive guidance and support to enhance their skills and knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Graduate degree in a scientific discipline with a quantitative focus, such as data science, statistics, mathematics, or computer science. A successful track record of using data science in a business environment is acceptable in lieu of graduate work.
- 7+ years' experience with predictive analytics tools and supporting languages (i.e., Python, R, SQL).
- 7+ years' demonstrated experience working with various business units to define and understand business problems and solutions, and translating data science insights into actionable business strategies.
- Extensive experience in the application of statistical and machine learning models to business processes, including clustering, classification, forecasting, reinforcement learning, and market basket analysis.
- Proven experience documenting detailed information on model structure and performance for both expert and non-expert audiences, ensuring clear and transparent communication.
- In-depth understanding of project management and methodologies and processes.
- Comprehensive understanding of DevOps processes, including containerization and regression testing.
- Strong customer focus and relationship skills, with a track record of building and maintaining effective partnerships and acting as a trusted advisor.

Pay Range: $125k-$158k plus 15% annual target bonus. The estimated hiring range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
