EKA Associates, P.A. is a leading civil engineering and land development consulting firm based in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. We specialize in delivering high-quality design solutions for residential and commercial development projects across the state. We are currently seeking an experienced and licensed Principal Civil Engineer to join our team and provide technical leadership within our engineering department.
Position Summary:
The Principal Civil Engineer will lead design efforts and oversee technical execution of land development projects, ensuring high standards of quality, code compliance, and client satisfaction. This individual will be responsible for guiding junior staff, managing engineering tasks independently, and coordinating with clients, agencies, and multidisciplinary teams. This is a leadership role requiring strong civil engineering knowledge, particularly in site design and stormwater management within New Jersey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and review site design plans and civil engineering drawings for residential and commercial developments.
- Oversee the preparation of comprehensive development plans including site layout, grading, drainage, erosion and sediment control, and detail sheets.
- Conduct and evaluate soil permeability testing and logging.
- Serve as the technical point of contact for clients and attend design and coordination meetings.
- Ensure compliance with utility coordination requirements, NJDEP flood hazard regulations, and local resolution conditions.
- Perform detailed stormwater management design utilizing industry-standard modeling software.
- Prepare project documentation, cost estimates, and support permitting and regulatory submissions.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and drafters on technical design standards and best practices.
Required Qualifications:
- Active New Jersey Professional Engineer (PE) License - Required
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on civil engineering design experience with a focus on stormwater management - Required
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and civil design tools - Required
- Strong working knowledge of NJDEP regulations and New Jersey municipal development procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment
