Job Summary:
The Prep Cook is responsible for assisting in the preparation of food items according to the establishment's high standards. This role involves preparing ingredients, organizing and maintaining a clean work environment, and ensuring food safety and quality throughout the kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Food Preparation:
    • Prepare ingredients by chopping, slicing, dicing, and portioning vegetables, fruits, meats, and other ingredients for use in various dishes.
    • Ensure that all prep work is completed efficiently and according to recipe specifications and standards.
    • Assist in the assembly and preparation of meals for service.
  • Stocking and Inventory Management:
    • Maintain an organized and well-stocked work station, ensuring all necessary ingredients and supplies are readily available.
    • Assist in the proper storage of food products and ingredients, ensuring they are stored at the correct temperature to maintain freshness and prevent contamination.
    • Monitor food stock levels and communicate with the kitchen manager or chef regarding any shortages or necessary orders.
  • Food Safety and Hygiene:
    • Follow food safety regulations and hygiene standards to ensure safe food handling and the prevention of contamination.
    • Maintain cleanliness of work areas, including proper sanitation of countertops, utensils, and kitchen tools.
    • Adhere to safety guidelines regarding the use of kitchen equipment, ensuring safe handling and storage of food products.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
    • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment such as food processors, mixers, knives, and peelers.
    • Ensure all kitchen tools and equipment are properly cleaned and sanitized after use.
    • Report any malfunctioning or broken equipment to the supervisor for timely repairs or replacements.
  • Assisting with Menu Preparation:
    • Support the chefs and kitchen staff in preparing dishes, including sauces, stocks, and garnishes.
    • Assist with the plating and presentation of food items as needed during service.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork:
    • Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and efficient food preparation.
    • Follow instructions from the chefs and other senior kitchen staff and assist in ensuring high-quality standards.
Qualifications:
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in a prep cook or kitchen assistant role is preferred but not required.
    • Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques and kitchen procedures is an advantage.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knife skills and the ability to handle kitchen tools and equipment safely.
    • Good time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions to ensure food quality.
  • Work Ethic:
    • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
    • Strong team player with the ability to communicate effectively with the kitchen team.
    • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a professional kitchen environment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (e.g., heavy ingredients, boxes of food).
  • Must be able to stand and work for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, and squat as necessary to perform prep duties.
  • Manual dexterity to handle knives, kitchen tools, and equipment effectively.
Licenses or Certificates
  • Ability to obtain any government required licenses or certificates.
Grooming
  • All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance.
